Seven minute review for a foul tip…now we’ve seen everything
With runners on the corners and one out, what was initially ruled a foul tip led to a seven-minute review.
Essentially, the ball got past the catcher, and the runner from third moved home, but the ball was called dead. It was obvious that the runner would score, but with a dead ball, he could not come home.
The hitter claimed he never made contact. Thus, the Canada coach challenged the ruling of a foul tip to see if they could bring that run home.
It was a very difficult call for the umpires, but ultimately they decided that a run would not score, and the runners would stay put. Thankfully for Canada, the run would still score on a fielder’s choice just a few pitches later, but given how long that review took, it’s clear Canada wants as much insurance as they can muster.
They lead 5-0.
What an impressive start for Canada in the top of the first inning
Canada comes out swinging. Four runs, five hits and a commanding lead already. 4-0 after the top of the first inning.
South Korea’s starter Ju Won Kim didn’t last long
Ju Won Kim didn’t record an out, but gave up three hits and three runs. Seo Jun Park came out of the bullpen.
