Leanne Morgan’s multi-cam sitcomLeannereturned to our screens for its second season in late August 2026. However, after missing the Netflix Global Top 10s in its opening weekend, the Chuck Lorre-produced comedy is already feared to be in cancellation-danger territory, but is there anything to worry about? Here’s a look at the show’s renewal status, a deep dive into its viewership data, and what the cast is saying about a possible Season 3.

Bringing traditional broadcast-style multi-cam laughs to Netflix, Leanneis a relatively inexpensive comedy that has captured the hearts of fans who love a good sitcom. Following the release of Season 2 globally on August 27th, 2026, fans have been eagerly waiting to see if the titular character’s romantic cliffhangers will get a resolution.

Here’s everything we know so far about Leanne Season 3.

Renewal Status: Will Netflix Renew Leanne for Season 3?

Official Renewal Status:Pending (Last updated: September 2nd, 2026)

Currently, Netflix has not officially renewed Leanne for a third season. Although multi-cam sitcoms are cheaper to produce than heavy-VFX dramas, the opening weekend viewership data isn’t making a great case for the show’s survival but we have seen numerous times in the past where comedy viewership hasn’t necessarily played into getting a renewal.

When Season 1 debuted, it successfully broke into the Global Top 10 English-Language TV list, racking up 2.7 million views and then in its full week going to 2.8M views before falling out.

Unfortunately, Season 2 completely missed the Global Top 10 in its first four days of release. For context, the number 10 spot for the week of August 24–30 was taken by Love Is Blind: UK Season 3, which garnered 2.2 million views. This means Leanne Season 2 failed to cross that 2.2 million threshold.

What makes this miss even more concerning is the runtime advantage. Season 1 featured 16 episodes, but Season 2, as we first reported, was trimmed down to just 10 episodes. Because Netflix calculates its viewership metric (Views) by dividing total hours viewed by the season’s total runtime, a shorter runtime technically makes iteasier to accumulate higher views if your core audience returns to binge. The fact that Leanne failed to chart despite this structural advantage points to a steep drop-off in global viewership.

    Where is Leanne performing well?

While the global numbers were soft, the show still has a dedicated heartbeat in regional markets. Looking at the daily Top 10 data from FlixPatrol,Leannehas put up a decent fight in English-speaking and Commonwealth territories.

In the United States, the series debuted at #3 on August 28th and held that spot for four days before dipping to #4.Here is the regional breakdown of where Leanne has managed to chart over its first week (August 27th to September 2nd):

    • North America: United States (Peaked at #3), Canada (Peaked at #3)

    • Oceania: Australia (Peaked at #6), New Zealand (Peaked at #9)

    • Europe: Ireland (Peaked at #8), Malta (Peaked at #6), Finland (Peaked at #9), Iceland (Peaked at #7), Cyprus (Peaked at #9)

    • Africa: South Africa (Peaked at #8), Kenya (Peaked at #8)

    • Caribbean: Bahamas (Peaked at #5), Trinidad and Tobago (Peaked at #4), Jamaica (Peaked at #6)

While a comedy series can survive on domestic popularity alone (as we recently saw with the workplace comedy Tires), Leannewill need to sustain those Top 5 US and Canadian spots to convince executives to order another batch of episodes, but as we’ve seen before, performing in the top 10s doesn’t tell the full story.

Leanne is a good awards magnet; it recently scooped 2 Emmy nominations, for example, and the series also performs other roles in Netflix’s library. A Man on the Inside season 2 is probably the best comparison we have here for good news, given that it picked up a season 3 renewal despite viewership falling dramatically.

What to Expect from Leanne Season 3: The Cast Speaks

(Warning: Spoilers for Season 2 below!)

If Netflix does opt to grant Leanne a third and final season to wrap things up, the writers have plenty of comedic material to mine—particularly regarding Leanne’s complicated love life and the shifting dynamics of her family.

Season 1 ended with Leanne in a happy relationship with FBI agent Andrew (Tim Daly). However, Season 2 threw fans quite the curveball. When Andrew proposes, Leanne realizes she isn’t ready to get married again. She turns down the proposal and suggests they go on a break, leaving Andrew to tell her he needs time to think about it. By the end of Season 2, Leanne is single and grappling with old habits as she shares a surprise kiss with her ex-husband Bill (Ryan Stiles).

Behind the scenes, part of the reason for Andrew’s limited screen time in Season 2 is that Tim Daly and his real-life wife, Téa Leoni, are prepping to launch their own sitcom, Newlyweds, on NBC this October.

However, Leanne Morgan is already laying the groundwork for Daly’s return. In an interview with TV Insider published the day Season 2 dropped, Morgan made it clear she is actively pushing the writers to bring Andrew back for Season 3:

“I’ve told those writers, I go, ‘That’s not over yet.’ He is precious. He’s still my boyfriend, darn it.”

Addressing Daly’s new NBC show with Leoni, Morgan playfully added:

“I’m tickled for them. I love them and I love Téa — she’s a girl’s girl and darling. But he’s my boyfriend.”

Romance aside, Season 2 struck a chord by tackling the highly relatable challenge of caring for aging parents. In an August 28th interview with Forbes, Morgan was asked what advice she has for fans looking for a fresh start later in life, a central theme she hopes to continue exploring. She simply stated:“I would look at it this way. You don’t want to have regrets in life, you know?”

With the stars eager to return, the ball is firmly in Netflix’s court. We will keep this page updated as soon as we hear official word on the show’s renewal or cancellation.
