The former journalist opted for a sleek and bejeweled look as she and husband Jeff Bezos attended the state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House Sept. 24.
For the stately occasion, Sánchez Bezos donned an off-the-shoulder black, vintage Alexander McQueen gown featuring a plunging neckline, which kept her decolletage free to show off her massive diamond necklace.
The necklace looked to be made of emerald-cut diamonds, with a large, emerald-cut pendant hanging from the center. The 56-year-old completed the look with diamond earrings and a black clutch.
As for her husband, the Amazon founder kept it simple in a classic black tuxedo as he and his wife joined President DonaldTrump and fellow tech founders ElonMusk and MarkZuckerberg for the state dinner held in the East Room of the White House.
And Sánchez Bezos is no stranger to political events, having caused a stir with her low cut white bustier top and matching blazer and pants for President Trump’s 2025 Inauguration.
In fact, her sartorial scandal helped influence the philanthropist’s look at the 2026 Met Gala: amidnight blue Schiaparelli gown inspired by John Singer Sargent‘s controversial 1883 painting “Madame X.”
As Sánchez Bezos explained to Vogue in May, she was drawn to the painting after learning “how a small detail, like the fallen jeweled strap, once sparked such a strong public reaction.”

“When you stand in front of it now, you see a beautiful woman. For me, the image represents how fashion and cultural standards can shift over time,” she continued. “Today, a strap is a strap, but back when ‘Madame X’ was painted by Sargent, a strap was a scandal.”
In that vein, Schiaparelli designer DanielRoseberry“took the spirit of the gown” as inspiration for the Met dress.
“The silhouette nods to the painting, and the pearl-and-crystal straps are a quiet reference to the originals,” Sánchez Bezos explained, “but everything else is Daniel. His craftsmanship is breathtaking.”
