    Key Points

    • Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler and Garret Dillahunt walked the floor at San Diego Comic-Con.

    • They stayed undetected by wearing stormtrooper masks that covered their head.

    • “It was amazing,” Chandler said.

As it turns out, those were the actors we were looking for!

While visiting Today With Jenna and Sheinelleon Monday, Kyle Chandler revealed that he and his Lanterns costar Garret Dillahunt dressed up as stormtroopers and managed to secretly walk the San Diego Comic-Con floor without anyone noticing them.

“Garrett Dillahunt, he and I wanted to go down on the main floor,” Chandler explained to Sheinelle Jones and guest host Dylan Dreyer. “And so we asked, ‘Can we go on the floor?’ And they’re like, ‘You can’t go on the floor!'”

But the Friday Night Lights alum wasn’t giving up on his mission to see the convention that easily.

“We asked, ‘Well, can we get masks or something?'” he recalled. “And so they came to us at lunchtime and they brought two stormtrooper helmets [and] we put them on.”

He continued, “We walked through the whole thing for like an hour and got to see that, and it was amazing.”

Chandler isn’t the only one who has fond memories of their covert mission. In an Instagram post, Dillahunt shared footage of the pair meandering around the convention together in their masks. “Walked the con floor with #KyleChandler,” he captioned the post. “Pretty sure I’d have been fine without the stormtrooper mask, but he’s convinced it saved our lives.”

Fans quickly flocked to the comment section to celebrate their cheeky disguises, with one person writing, “Do what you gotta do…have fun guys. 😂❤️.”

Chandler and Dillahunt attended Comic-Con with their Lanterns costars Aaron Pierre and Poorna Jagannathan ahead of the HBO series’ Aug. 16 release date. The show follows Green Lanterns Hal Jordan (Chandler) and John Stewart (Pierre) as they investigate a mysterious murder.

But Chandler and Dillahunt weren’t the only stars that got crafty when it came to getting the authentic Comic-Con experience. Ryan Reynolds dressed up as Jeanpool, a denim-clad version of his character Deadpool, and similarly took to the convention floor to meet and pose for photographs with fans before crashing Marvel’s Hall H panel later that evening.

“The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago,” Reynolds wrote on Instagram. “Yesterday, 10 years after the first film and exactly 2 years after Deadpool & Wolverine, I felt so lucky to be on the #SDCC floor with everyone whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world.”

The Marvel star confirmed he walked around the event with “no handlers, no security, [and] no ropes,” adding, “WHAT A GIFT.” He continued, “Thanks to everyone I met, who aren’t only cosplaying but world-building.”
