Sister Wives is entering a new era.
The <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC5w6xRtogY” rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>trailer for season 21 of the TLC reality show revealed that Kody Brown and his remaining wife Robyn Brown have left the show and won’t appear on the upcoming season, marking the first installment they’re missing since Sister Wives premiered in 2010. Instead, the series will focus on his ex-wives Christine Brown Woolley, Janelle Brown and Meri Brown.
“After 16 years of filming Sister Wives,” text on screen at the beginning of the Sept. 14 trailer read, “Kody & Robyn will not be returning to the show.”
Kody’s ex-wives were then shown reacting to the shocking news that he and Robyn have exited the show.
“I don’t know what it means,” Christine said. “I have no idea.”
Meanwhile, Janelle said that she was “flabbergasted” by the news, Meri echoing those same sentiments with, “I was actually surprised when I was told that Kody and Robyn weren’t coming back to the show.”
Though the trailer doesn’t reveal any additional information as to why Robyn and Kody are taking a step back from the series, it does hint at the ways his former wives navigate the news—which includes a reunion between all three women.

“This is going to be awkward,” Christine says ahead of her meeting with Meri and Jenelle, with Meri adding, “It’s not like I’m going to walk in and go for a hug.”
And with Kody even more out of the picture, the trailer promises new developments in the love lives of Meri and Jenelle, as well as new roadblocks to navigate for Christine and her husband David Woolley.
Kody and Robyn’s bombshell Sister Wives exits come after a tumultuous several years for the Brown family, starting with Christine ending her spiritual marriage to Kody in 2021 after 25 years together. Janelle and Meri also split from Kody shortly thereafter.
And that period of change—going from a plural marriage to monogamy—hadn’t been easy on Kody’s last remaining marriage to Robyn, either.
“Robyn and I are fighting for our marriage and our life together,” he shared a January episode of Sister Wives. “We have been going through four years or more of breakup with the family.”
“I guess what I’m saying is Robyn and I have a great relationship when I’m being me,” Kody added at the time, “when I’m being brave and kind.”
Robyn concurred with Kody’s perspective on their marital woes.
“We go through these periods where he is back to himself and we are like who we usually are in our relationship and it’s really beautiful and we’re just, we’re having a great time,” she explained on the show. “And then something will happen and he’s kind of back to, he reverts back to the angry divorced guy.”

As for bringing on other teammates, it’s not in the game plan. “I really, really struggle with it because it feels, like, ‘Oh, well. Those didn’t work. So, on to [someone] new,'” Robyn said on the December 2024 Sister Wives: One on One special of Meri Brown, Janelle Brown and Christine Brown leaving the fold. “That’s hard for me. That’s really, really hard for me. It feels disrespectful.”
In 2026, Meri confirmed she was seeing a man named Ron who she met at a speed-dating event.
“I am happy,” she said on the TLC series’ One-on-One special. “Ron is a really cool guy, very comfortable. I’m very comfortable hanging out with him.”
“I wasn’t looking,” insisted the mom of six, who’d frequently questioned if she’d ever date again. “I certainly wasn’t expecting you. And somehow, you turned out to be exactly what I didn’t know I needed.”
Summed up the North Carolinian: “It has been pretty wonderful. Everyone please meet Pete.”
“Our sweet girl took her time, keeping us all in suspense, but when she decided it was time—she didn’t waste a second,” North Carolina-based Maddie wrote on Instagram. “Born on 3/14, she arrived absolutely perfect.”
“My sweetest symphony,” Leon raved of their partner in 2022. “Life with you truly is so sweet.” Echoed Audrey, “Being your partner and watching your growth and coming into yourself over the years has been an honor and joy.”
Aspyn announced her pregnancy with the couple’s first baby in April 2025.
