Veteran actor Kirron Kher has joined the viral ’80s trend, but with a twist. While social media users have been recreating retro portraits using AI and filters, Kirron decided to go straight into her archives and share an actual photograph of herself from the decade.

Taking to Instagram, Kirron posted a black-and-white throwback picture that shows her in a saree, with long hair and sunglasses resting on her head. The actor made it clear that unlike many of the retro recreations currently flooding social media, her photograph required no artificial transformation.

Sharing the photograph, Kirron wrote, “Couldn’t resist sharing this one just as it is.”

She then highlighted what made her contribution to the trend different, writing, “No ChatGPT. No AI. No filters. Just a real picture from the 80s and honestly, it didn’t need anything else.”

She accompanied the post with hashtags including 80sTrend, 80sVibes, Vintage and OldIsGold. The post was set to Lata Mangeshkar’s classic Ajib Dastan Hai Yeh.

Rather than recreating the decade through technology, Kirron’s post offered followers an actual glimpse of what she looked like during the era.

The photograph quickly attracted attention on Instagram, receiving more than 14,000 likes within hours of being shared. The post stood out as Kirron joined the nostalgia-driven trend in her own way.

With AI-generated transformations inspired by different decades becoming increasingly popular across social media, Kirron’s decision to pull out a genuine photograph from the 1980s gave the trend a distinctly personal touch.

Kirron Kher has had a long career across films and television. She is known for performances in films including Sardari Begum, Devdas, Main Hoon Na, Veer-Zaara, Rang De Basanti, Fanaa, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Om Shanti Om, Dostana and Khoobsurat.

Beyond films, Kirron also became a familiar face on television through her association with the reality show India’s Got Talent, where she appeared as a judge for several seasons.
