Kim Kardashian’s luxury Hidden Hills property became the site of a burglary attempt over the weekend, with the suspected intruder reportedly taking things a step further by driving away in a car belonging to one of her staff members.
Thief breaks into Kim Kardashian’s house
According to The New York Post, the incident took place on Sunday, August 9, at the Los Angeles County property, which is estimated to be worth around USD 60 million. Kardashian and her children were not at the residence at the time, as the family has been staying at a nearby rented home while renovation work continues on the sprawling estate.
Police were called to the property after receiving reports of a break-in and a man taking items from inside the house. According to NBC News, the suspect was identified as 27-year-old Trey Mendel and was arrested while still on the property.
The intruder reportedly took one of the cars parked at Kardashian’s estate for a ride around the neighbourhood. The vehicle is said to belong to a member of the reality star’s staff.
The incident comes as Kardashian continues to renovate and expand her sprawling Hidden Hills compound. According to The New York Post, Kardashian and her former husband, rapper Kanye West, purchased the property in 2014 for around USD 20 million. After extensive renovations, the family moved into the residence in 2017.
Kardashian and West divorced in 2022, and the reality star later moved out of the property with their four children while further renovation work was being carried out.
Kim Kardashian is currently in a relationship with F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
Inside Kim Kardashian’s lavish estate
According to the Los Angeles Times, the 15,667-square-foot property features eight bedrooms, 10 bathrooms, eight fireplaces, a home theatre, a game room with a wet bar, a panelled library and a gym. Kardashian has also purchased a neighbouring property as she continues to expand the estate.
The latest security scare comes almost a decade after Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in Paris in 2016. Thieves disguised as police officers broke into her residence, tied her up and stole jewellery worth more than USD 6 million, including a diamond ring valued at USD 4 million.
The trial of 10 defendants connected to the Paris robbery concluded in 2025, with eight found guilty and two acquitted.
Kardashian has yet to publicly comment on the burglary attempt at her Hidden Hills home.
