Kate Winslet is set to star in The Unheard, a new thriller show coming to Netflix. The five-episode limited series is the writer behind the streamer’s acclaimed drama Adolescence. The show reunites Thorne with Netflix following the success of Adolescence
The Unheard follows two sisters who must flee after their revenge plan goes awry. Directed by Mounia Akl, the production is expected to begin in 2027. Netflix announced the project as part of its new U.K. slate at the Edinburgh TV Festival. The official release date has not been announced yet.
What is The Unheard about and who else is starring in it?
The Unheard’s official logline reads, “This limited series tells the story of two sisters who go on the run after an act of vengeance goes wrong. As they are desperately pursued, questions remain: What pushed them to this reckless act? And was it ever their intention to get away with it?”
Netflix has not shared many details about the plot yet. However, the story will focus on the sisters and the circumstances that led them to carry out their revenge plan. Their relationship will likely be an important part of the thriller as they deal with the consequences of their actions.
Winslet will star alongside Maxine Peake, with both playing the two sisters. For Winslet, The Unheard adds another intense project to her TV lineup. She won an Emmy for her role in HBO’s Mare of Easttown. Her recent TV projects include The Regime and I Am Ruth. Meanwhile, Peake is known for roles in Shameless, Anne, Say Nothing, and Black Mirror. Winslet and Peake are the only cast members announced so far.
Behind the scenes, Akl will direct The Unheard, while Thorne will write it. Warp Films, Matriarch Productions, and Plan B will produce the series. Winslet and Thorne will serve as executive producers alongside Stephen Graham, Hannah Walters, Mark Herbert, Emily Feller, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, and Nina Wolarsky.
Netflix has not announced a release date for The Unheard. With production expected to begin in 2027, more casting and story details will be announced later.
