Created by Tessa Coates and directed by Peyton Reed, Ride or Die follows Debbie Claybourne (Spencer), an ordinary woman who discovers that her longtime best friend, Judith Burton (Waddingham), is secretly a highly skilled international assassin.
After a mission goes wrong overseas, the two friends find themselves on the run across Europe as they try to escape assassins and intelligence agents. Amazon decided not to renew the series for a next season, just over two months after its July 15, 2026, premiere.
However, Paramount Television Studios, which produced Ride or Die, quickly began looking for another buyer. The cancellation came despite the show earning a 96% score from criticson Rotten Tomatoes.
Why another chapter for Ride or Die still makes sense
The effort to save Ride or Die comes down to its audience and the story it left unfinished. The series stayed on Prime Video’s global Top 10 list for more than two months. It was also the platform’s most-watched original series worldwide during its first three weeks.
The show also ended with several major questions still unanswered. Debbie and Judith boarded a Eurostar train while being chased by covert agents. That leaves their next move unclear.
