Jaaved Jaaferi’s chartbuster Bol Baby Bol Rock-N-Roll from Subhash Ghai’s Meri Jung (1985) is remembered even today. Appearing in an upcoming episode of the fifth season of India’s Best Dancer, the actor recalled how late choreographer Saroj Khan gave Hindi cinema a dancing villain, a rarity at the time, through the song. Talking about how the choreographer broke Bollywood’s standard cinematic tropes, Jaaved recalled, “The kind of character that Anil Kapoor had in the film, it didn’t have scope for dancing. As a result, the flavour of high-energy dance was introduced through the villain. I think it marked the first entry of a ‘dancing villain’ in Indian cinema.”

The song, featuring (L-R) Khushboo Sundar and Jaaved Jaaferi, was composed by musicians Laxmikant-Pyarelal. Pics/Youtube, Instagram

Jaavedwas joined by Ravi Behl and Naved Jafri on Sony TV’s reality show. As they walked down memory lane, Behl reminded Jaaved that he had borrowed his brother’s red shoes and trousers for the shoot. “Jaaved had actually borrowed Naved’s red shoes and pants, leaving him to spend the entire day hanging around the set in his vest, pants, and spare footwear,” laughed Behl as Jaaved added that the dance number was filmed in four days on the streets of Nariman Point and a set
