Iron Maiden are taking fans back to the world of Somewhere In Time with an ambitious new graphic novel celebrating the iconic album’s 40th anniversary.
The legendary metal band have teamed up with graphic novel publisher Z2 to release Somewhere In Time: The Graphic Album, a science-fiction anthology inspired by all eight tracks on their landmark 1986 record. The book will arrive on March 2, 2027, and promises to give fans a fresh look at one of Maiden’s most recognizable projects.
Eight Songs, Eight Stories and Plenty of Eddie
Rather than simply retelling the album’s story, the graphic novel will feature eight individual stories, each inspired by one of the record’s tracks. It will also include a prologue and epilogue exploring the events leading up to the moment captured in the album’s iconic cover artwork.
Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith clearly has a soft spot for this particular version of the band’s legendary mascot.
“It’s just a great version of Eddie, my favorite version of Eddie probably,” Smith said. He also praised the character’s imposing appearance, describing him as powerful and menacing.
The graphic album will also give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Somewhere In Time.
Smith will sit down for an in-depth interview with Dave Shack of Phantom Music Management to discuss the making of the record and revisit the creative process behind one of Iron Maiden’s defining releases.
Z2 Editor-in-Chief Rantz Hoseley also expressed his excitement about the project, “Like many other writers and artists, everything about that album – the songs, the art, that powerful incarnation of Eddie – evoked a million possible stories. It’s such an honour to bring this creative team together to explore these worlds!”
Special Editions Include Rare Iron Maiden Vinyl
Fans who want more than the standard book can choose from several collectible editions.
The Deluxe edition comes with a 7-inch vinyl edition of “Wasted Years,” while the Platinum edition adds another 7-inch single featuring “Stranger In A Strange Land.”
Iron Maiden have previously worked with Z2 on a graphic album celebrating Piece Of Mind and on Bruce Dickinson’s The Mandrake Project comic series.
