There are some Netflix shows in my life that I genuinely love more than anything. And then there’s Emily in Paris. You might think that sounds like an insult, but in reality, I have a different kind of love for this show.

Emily in Pariswas a series I felt a certain kinship with from the beginning. Maybe it was because I’d been in her shoes before, gone to another country not knowing any of the cultural rules, and struggling to fit in. Or maybe it’s because I crave romance plots that make me want to slam my head against a wall. Either way, I’m always stoked whenever a new season rolls around.

The show has consistently released seasons since 2020, and now season 6 is coming out on Dec. 24, 2026. That’s a bold time to release episodes, mind you. But I suppose Christmas mass will have to wait so I can get my fill of bad French and tasty-looking croissants.

Jokes aside, I am excited for season 6, despite all the controversy surrounding this show. After some time, it really did find its stride, and a lot was going for it, especially when it started to dig into deeper, more complex social topics. However, there’s one plot point that, if it’s not resolved in the first episode, I’m going to have to resign from this fandom.

And it has to do with a certain relationship.

For the love of all things French, let Emily and Gabriel just be together

I am so tired, guys. So tired. This question needs to be answered.

It has been fiveseasons of just “will they, won’t they.” And then they had it for an episode, and then it ended over a baby that wasn’t even real.

Look, I genuinely do like Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Emily (Lily Collins) as a couple. I think especially in the earlier seasons, when things weren’t so messy between all the love interests and everything else, they really worked well together. But then the stories took turns I wasn’t expecting, and more drama unfolded time and time again.

At a certain point, I was actively rooting against these two, too. Heck, to a certain degree, I still am, because each time these two magnets pull together, other forces in the universe aim to wrench them apart. And as a viewer? That’s so tiring.

As a lover of Italy and all things Italian, I loved Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini), and I think he and Emily made a great pair. They made seasons 4 and 5 great, and I really wanted to watch them have a super-long relationship. I was more locked in with them than any other couple. It’s honestly a shame that ultimately, the reason they didn’t end up working out was just that they wanted different things. Marcello wanted to move Emily out to his home in Italy, and Emily wanted to stay in Paris.

That’s fair. Relationships have ended over far worse things. But all in all, they were healthier than most other relationships in this show. Sure, some slimy business tactics on both sides ended up hurting them more than helping, but if you take that out of the equation, they really did work well together.

Meanwhile, every time Gabriel and Emily were in the same room, it felt like gunpowder, and we were one shot away from an epic explosion of cataclysmic proportions because everything was just always up in the air.

My one request is just to let them be together. Don’t drag this out for ten episodes. Gabriel is in Greece on a break right now and relaxing. Let Emily go to Greece, let them reconnect, and be a couple for this last season. I can’t do another ten episodes of “Oh, I want you and love you, but life is just too complicated and…” blah, blah, blah.

If they truly wanted to make it work, they’d make it. Work. And I’m tired of this show trying to tell me I am wrong.

The drama was fun for a few seasons, and the relationships were enjoyable. But for this last season, focus on the culture, the fashion, and the feelingof Emily actually being in Paris, and please leave the love drama back in Italy. Thank you.
