A hit PlayStation 5 game is set to receive a long-awaited patch update. This news comes after the developers of the massive open-world game acknowledged major changes requested by fans. These optimizations could eventually be included in a future patch.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is available on the Nintendo Switch 2. However, fans have long requested updates for the game’s other console versions. In response, Bethesda Game Studios stated, “We’ve heard your feedback asking for an additional patch for Oblivion Remastered. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game has a number of optimizations that we are looking into bringing to other platforms and we will share more when we are able.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Oblivion Remastered runs well thanks to the console’s use of Nvidia silicon and its Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). However, the game still has some frame-pacing issues and bugs that Bethesda could address in a future patch. Moreover, since consoles like Xbox and PS5 still use AMD hardware, Nvidia’s DLSS cannot be used in their versions to make the game run faster and look sharper.

Potential Oblivion Remastered updates beyond the Switch 2 version

In addition to the Switch 2 update, Bethesda Game Studios is looking into bringing some of its optimizations to other platforms. If released, the additional patch would be the third update for the PS5 and Xbox versions. However, no further details are given about what these updates could be. That said, gamers can look forward to major updates to the game’s frame-time stability.

Consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as PCs, received the remastered digital version on April 22, 2025, while the Switch 2 version was launched on August 11, 2026. The PS5 and Xbox versions have received two post-launch patches, with the latest released in July 2025.

However, the remastered version, powered by Unreal Engine 5 front-end, still had major bugs and performance issues, causing the game to crash frequently. Since no other patches have been released since last year, fans have demanded updates for other consoles as well, and their request has been heard.
