Thirty years after Quake pioneered 3D graphics for first-person shooters, the iconic game is getting a surprise DLC. To celebrate its legacy, MachineGames and id Software are giving Quake fans a gift in the form of a new episode. Quake: Dawn of the Machine includes a new 19-map campaign, a new soundtrack, and a Deathmatch map. The expansion started its journey when Andrew Yoder, Lead Level Designer at MachineGames, approached Game Director Jerk Gustafsson with a new idea for the franchise. “We wanted to create something that felt authentic to the spirit of the original game: Horror! Action! Madness!” Yoder said.

Those who own Quake on PlayStation can launch it and find the expansion under Singleplayer > New Game > Episodes/Expansion. This applies to both existing and new owners of the game.
The expansion will feature enemies with new designs, derived by making changes to the Rocket Ogre, Demo Dog, and Blood Shambler. Instead of offering a hub world, Dawn of the Machine will let players progress without a break. The expansion’s soundtrack was composed by Christian Plogfors, who otherwise handles level design at MachineGames. Plogfors contributed to the development of two maps in Dawn of the Machine.
