
For the first time in more than 20 years, the Chicago White Sox are moving on in the postseason, and a familiar foe stands in their way.
The White Sox swept the Houston Astros in the American League Wild Card Series on Wednesday, advancing to the American League Division Series and ensuring themselves at least one home game in the postseason.

As a reward, the White Sox will face the American League Central-champion Cleveland Guardians, with the first game of that series set for this weekend along the shores of Lake Erie.
The Guardians ended the regular season as the second seed in the American League, and as a result they received a bye into the division series.
Still, the White Sox won the season series over their bitter rival, and they will aim to move on again when that series gets underway this weekend.

For those curious, the White Sox and Guardians have never played in a postseason series before, and Chicago will be hoping to get back to the American League Championship Series for the first time since they won the World Series in 2005.
As for the Guardians, they haven’t been to the ALCS since 2024 when they lost to the New York Yankees.
