Edward Bluemel is suiting up as Hercule Poirot: BritBox has released a first-look image of the “Killing Eve” star as the legendary detective from its forthcoming six-part drama “Hercule.”

Based on the Agatha Christie Novels, the show, which has commenced filming in Liverpool, “is an intimate study of Hercule Poirot, the man, and an epic portrait of Britain between the wars,” per the official synopsis. “‘Hercule’ will center around three of Christie’s early stories, while also introducing Hercule Poirot to future friends and allies and one particular nemesis…”

In addition to Bluemel, the cast includes Henry Ashton (“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”), James D’Arcy (“Constellations”), Calvin Demba (“Supacell”), Phil Dunning (“Am I Being Unreasonable?”), Jack Gleeson (“Game of Thrones”), Tamsin Greig (“Riot Women”), James Nesbitt (“Cold Feet”), Guy Remmers (“The Buccaneers”), Rebecca Rittenhouse (“His & Hers”), and Mawaan Rizwan (“Juice”).

The series, which is written by Benji Walters (“Obsession”), has no official release date. It’s expected to hit TV screens in 2027.

Everything we know about Agatha Christie’s legendary sleuth

Widely regarded as one of the greatest detectives in fiction, Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot novels have sold over 750 million copies, captivating readers and audiences for more than a century.

Poirot has been portrayed in dozens of movies and TV shows. David Suchet famously played the sleuth in “Agatha Christie’s Poirot” (aka “Poirot”), which debuted in 1989 on British broadcaster ITV and aired through 2013 on PBS and A&E here in the U.S. John Malkovich played Poirot in 2018’s “The ABC Murders,” and Kenneth Branagh recently played the detective in a series of star-studded movies, beginning with “Murder on the Orient Express” in 2017.

The news that the BBC would be developing a TV series centered on Agatha Christie’s beloved detective Hercule Poirot was first reported in May 2026. Shortly thereafter, BritBox announced Edward Bluemel would be its star.

The BBC reportedly made “a significant commitment” to the series in order to win a bidding war against other networks and streamers, with a run of up to three seasons expected in the next few years. The show is produced by Mammoth Screen (a part of ITV Studios) and Agatha Christie Limited for BritBox in North America, and BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the U.K.
