X-Men ’97 is a sequel to the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, which aired from 1992 to 1997, and also drew inspiration from the pages of Marvel Comics. Given the strong fan push for its return, this series will be one of the most memorable in recent history. Considering it ended on a cliffhanger in 1997, this revival is all about the sheer enthusiasm the creators and fans have for the series. To celebrate this series, Hasbro is offering a new wave of action figures with retro cardbacks. This wave includes Emma Frost, Morph, Jubilee, Cable, Sunspot, and Logan.
Thank you to Entertainment Earth for sending me the Hasbro Marvel Legends X-Men ’97 Wave 3 Cable and Morph figures for review.

Launch: November 2025
Cable and Morph are packaged in a retro-style blister card with an anime-style image of the character and the X-Men ’97 logo on the front, and an image of the figure and the rest of the wave’s appearance on the back.

Cable returns in X-Men ’97, and the Marvel team at Hasbro has worked hard to capture his likeness, complete with a light blue armor vest with dark blue stripes, light gray and dark gray shoulder pads, green and red harness, brown belt with silver belt buckle, gray detailing and sculpted pouches, dark blue pants with brown thigh pouches, and green and yellow boots with gray soles. His left arm is metal, with green gloves on each hand, and a green bicep band with a pouch attached to the metal arm.

His head sculpt is great, with white hair, a telekinetic black decoration on his left eye, brown eyes, painted lips, a gray communicator on his right ear, and well-finished facial details.
His articulation includes a ball-jointed head and hinged neck, ball-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball-jointed torso, swivel waist, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and hinged and rocker ankles.

The cable includes a large and small blaster, each with the same black effects as the other figures, and two sets of interchangeable hands (open grip, right fist, left open grip).

Below is a comparison to recent comic-inspired Cable figures.

Morphs also return in X-Men ’97, which is definitely a pleasant surprise. You may remember that in X-Men: The Animated Series, Morph was captured by Mister Sinister and used as a pawn. Morph appears in a classic X-Men costume in blue and yellow, with a red belt and black X-Men logo as the belt buckle, and a brown jacket with a sculpted pouch and another X-Men logo in red and black on the top left.

Morph includes three head sculpts: the gray head from X-Men ’97, the black-haired human head from X-Men ’92, and the head of Henry Gyrich. The next one remains gray and stands out when the human and Henry Gyrich heads are attached, but because they are gray these heads don’t look right on the body. HeadHead has its own advantages, and the team at Hasbro did a great job of capturing the similarities. Henry Gyrich includes glasses, each with well-finished facial details, and two with hair sculpts.

Two sets of interchangeable hands are also included (fisted and neutral).
His articulation includes a ball-jointed head and hinged neck, ball-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel waist, ball-jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and hinged and rocker ankles.

Below is a comparison with the X-Men: the Animated Series VHS Morph figure. As you can see, the new sculpt makes it look a lot like both the ’92 and ’97 series.

Overall, Cable and Morph are both great figures that closely resemble their source material and are great additions to the line. Cable is my personal favorite of the two given the attention to detail and accessories, but I’m also looking forward to getting my hands on this new morph figure. Be sure to pick up both figures today to add to your X-Men ’97 collection.
