Give Jungkook a trending sound, a viral meme or an internet challenge, and there is a good chance he will understand the assignment. The BTS star may have grown from the group’s Golden Maknae into a global superstar, but somewhere along the way, he also became remarkably fluent in the language of the internet. From hopping onto the ‘6-7’ trend and recreating the ‘Hooligan’ biker trend to singing a trending song, joining the MZ Generation photoshoot and even having a memorable ChatGPT conversation, Jungkook has repeatedly shown a distinctly Gen-Z side. As he turns 29 on September 1, here are the moments that prove he is truly chronically online.

    Jungkook and the 6-7 trend

Jungkook has proved that being a global superstar does not mean being out of touch with the internet’s most random trends. The BTS Golden Maknae recently got fully involved in the viral 6-7 trend, even taking part in a playful “6-7 battle” with a young fan at the Eiffel Tower. The interaction showed just how enthusiastically he embraces internet culture — with fans joking that he looked even more excited than the child.

For those unfamiliar with the trend, 6-7 is one of the internet’s intentionally nonsensical memes. It originated from rapper Skrilla’s song Doot Doot (6 7) and spread through TikTok and Instagram Reels, particularly. It later evolved into people simply saying “six-seven” while doing a distinctive up-and-down hand gesture. Crucially, it doesn’t have one fixed meaning, its absurdity is the joke

Jungkook had already shown that he was familiar with the meme during BTS’ appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. When RM mentioned that the members had lived together for “six, seven years,” the audience erupted into the ‘6-7’ reaction. While the other members were confused, Jungkook immediately recognised the reference and pointed out that the audience knew the slang.

The Golden Maknae has also kept the fun going during the ARIRANG tour, repeatedly doing the viral gesture whenever fans ask him to, proving just how effortlessly he plays along with ARMY and adding to his undeniably adorable, playful persona.

    Jungkook joining Hooligan biker trend

Jungkook once again proved that his Golden Maknae title comes with a very Gen-Z side when he jumped onto the viral ‘Hooligan’ biker trend. The trend began after fans started using BTS’ ARIRANG track Hooligan for transition videos showcasing their skills and hobbies, with motorcycle clips becoming one of its most popular formats.

Rather than simply promoting the song in a conventional way, Jungkook recreated the fan-made trend himself. On April 22, he shared a video of himself riding a motorcycle through Seoul at night, syncing the visuals to Hooligan. His caption was simply, “I have been wanting to try it”, making the whole thing feel less like a carefully planned celebrity campaign and more like a fan who had seen a cool trend and wanted to try it himself.

What makes this particularly fitting for the “chronically online Jungkook” feature is that fans had noticed him liking and reposting similar Hooligan biker videos before he finally made his own version. In other words, Jungkook wasn’t late to the trend he was watching it, understood the format and then decided to join in.

Jungkook sings Du Bist Gut Genug trending song

Jungkook showed just how tuned in he is to social media trends when he sang “Gut Genug (Du Bist Gut Genug),” a German track that had been gaining popularity on TikTok and Instagram. With its catchy chorus becoming a viral sound and meme, his casual rendition quickly caught fans’ attention.

The moment was another glimpse of Jungkook’s fun and spontaneous personality, proving that the BTS Golden Maknae is always ready to have fun with whatever is trending even when it comes to unexpected songs.

Jungkook and the MZ Generation photo trend

Jungkook also showed his knowledge of the trend while teasing Jin over his Instagram photos. When BTS’ eldest member playfully introduced his Instagram pictures as the trendy “MZ Generation” photo style, joking that “half of the photo is literally just forehead.” Jungkook, in response, teased Jin for embracing the trend, writing, “You’re really posting these photos in real time. Impressive.”

    Jungkook, Jin's MZ photoshoot

The lighthearted exchange perfectly captured the BTS members’ playful dynamic, with Jungkook seemingly amused by Jin keeping up with the latest social media trend. The Golden Maknae was also seen in the MZ style photoshoot earlier too and the pictures were shared by V aka Kim Taehyung and Jimin.

Jungkook and his love for imitating memes

Jungkook’s social media game becomes even more entertaining when he doesn’t just watch memes take over the internet, he joins in and recreates them himself. The BTS singer has repeatedly shown that he understands the humour and visual references that circulate among younger internet users, often turning viral moments into his own playful content. He showed his playful side around BTS’ 2.0music video, joining fans in recreating a meme linked to his look.

Considering his enormous global profile, the contrast makes these moments even more entertaining. Jungkook can be performing for thousands in a stadium one moment and recreating something straight out of internet meme culture the next, showing just how naturally he connects with the humour and trends that dominate social media.

    Jungkook’s adorable AI conversation

Jungkook’s chronically online, Gen-Z side was on full display in Are You Sure?! Season 2 when he turned to AI to practise his English only to find himself hilariously arguing with the chatbot because it kept ending their conversation.

The BTS Golden Maknae started with a simple question about whether the AI could speak Korean. After Jungkook confirmed that he could, the AI abruptly replied, “Well, bye!” leaving him completely baffled. “Why bye?” Jungkook asked, clearly wanting the conversation to continue. The exchange continued with the AI asking him simple questions such as whether he liked tea and pizza. Jungkook happily answered, only for the chatbot to once again say “Well, bye!” His reaction was priceless: “What the heck??? Why bye??” When the AI said “See you later!”, Jungkook made it clear that he wasn’t ready to leave, responding, “I don’t wanna go.”

What was supposed to be an English-learning exercise quickly turned into a hilariously relatable conversation, with Jungkook essentially pleading with an AI not to end their chat. And honestly, nothing captures his Gen-Z energy better than a global superstar getting personally offended because a chatbot keeps saying goodbye.

Jungkook’s editing skills and love for dance challenges

Jungkook’s social media presence often feels more like that of a Gen-Z creator, thanks to his playful approach to content. From experimenting with transitions and cuts to syncing visuals perfectly with music, he clearly enjoys putting his own touch on his videos.

His dance challenges are another highlight. Jungkook has repeatedly joined trending choreography, often choosing songs outside his own discography and giving each challenge his signature energy. He doesn’t simply follow the moves his videos often come with creative edits and transitions that make them feel more personal.

What makes these moments particularly fun is how naturally Jungkook embraces short-form content. Whether he is trying a new dance, experimenting with an edit or recreating a trending format, the Golden Maknae shows that he knows how to turn even a simple Reel into something fans want to watch on repeat.

And whether he is taking on the latest dance challenge, experimenting with edits or simply having fun with a viral trend, Jungkook continues to show just how effortlessly he connects with the digital world. Here’s to more reels, more challenges and plenty more unforgettable moments. Happy Birthday, Jungkook!
