A new post on Rockstar Support reveals that GTA 6’s PS5 codes are region locked, while XBOX version isn’t.
Players are already frustrated because the physical version of GTA 6 only includes a download code and does not come with a disc. The new information states that these codes must be redeemed in the same region as the user’s platform account, and this issue specifically affects PS5 users.
GTA 6 PS5 Codes Region Needs to Match the Region of the Platform Account
Rockstar Support has provided a new post that answers the general FAQs for the game, including the region-locked situations for GTA 6 PS5 codes. The post confirms that there are region restrictions for GTA 6 code redemptions “based on the region associated with your platform account.” This means that the GTA 6 PS5 code players receive must match the region of their platform account. Interestingly, XBOX codes do not have the region lock issue.
PlayStation players have been advised to “buy and play from a retailer that is in the country of your platform account to avoid potential activation problems.” Additionally, here is a list of regions where codes bought by players can only be used with PlayStation accounts that are registered in specific countries:
- Brazil: Brazil
- LATAM: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay
- North America: Canada, United States
- Korea: South Korea
- Japan: Japan
- Product codes in Japan will expire 170 days after the issuance date, which is the launch date (November 19, 2026) due to regional regulations.
- United Kingdom: United Kingdom
- Saudi Arabia & UAE: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates
- Rest of Asia: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand
- Rest of EMEA and Asia: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine
Xbox: Codes purchased are not region-locked.
