Golden Bachelor’s Mel Owens and Peg Munson Break Up One Year After Finale

This golden love has lost its luster.

One year after Mel Owens and Peg Munson found love on season two of The Golden Bachelor, Munson announced she and the former NFL player have decided to go their separate ways.

“I really want to thank everybody for being there on this journey with me for the past year,” she shared in an Oct. 21 Instagram video. “And I’m really sorry that I haven’t spoken out sooner, but it’s been a really difficult 30 days for me.”

She continued, “As a lot of you guys know I went on the Golden Bachelor, hoping to find love, and I did. And you know, for that I’m grateful.”

But while it seemed like everything was coming up roses when Owens handed her a ring of commitment during the finale, every relationship has its thorns, and her and Owens’ were just too sharp.

“I did have to make the difficult decision to step away from the relationship,” Munson continued. “Sometimes, even when there’s love, it just doesn’t turn out the way that we hoped. So right now, I’m just, I’m just focusing on healing my heart and just focusing on myself, my health, and looking forward to the next chapter.”

But Munson doesn’t need rose-colored glasses to be grateful for her and Owens’ time together.

“I really do, just really wish Mel the best of luck, and I’m very grateful for the experience,” she added. “I’m grateful for the memories, and most of all, I’m grateful for you guys along this journey with me.”

Munson noted she’s been inundated with “wonderful” messages bearing “kind words of love and support” that have made all the difference in navigating her breakup.

“So, thanks,” she concluded, “and stay tuned.”

Munson reiterated in her caption that she and Owens had developed “real” love, and that she’d always be grateful for the experience she was given through Bachelor Nation.

So far, Owens has yet to address the split.

Owens and Munson’s breakup marks the second the Golden Bachelorfranchise has seen. While The Golden Bachelorette’s Joan Vassosand Chock Chappleare still happily engaged, the original Golden Bachelor Gerry Turner and his relationship with wife Theresa Nistalso proved to be ill-fated.

Just three months after they tied the knot on TV, the pair went their separate ways in April 2024.

At the time, Turner—who is now engaged to Lana Sutton—told ABC’s Juju Chang, “Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation, so forth and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage.”
