Go Nagai and Akira Toriyama inducted into Eisner Awards Hall of Fame
Manga creators Go Nagai and the late Akira Toriyama have been inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame.
The announcement was made during the ‘38th Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards,’ held in the United States on July 24. Often referred to as the “Oscars of the comic book industry,” the Eisner Awards’ Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the comics medium.
Last year, Shigeru Mizuki and Junji Ito were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Previous Japanese inductees also include Osamu Tezuka, Hayao Miyazaki, Moto Hagio, and Keiji Nakazawa.
Nagai is best known for creating works such as ‘Devilman,’ ‘Mazinger Z,’ ‘Dororon Enma-kun,’ ‘Cutie Honey,’ and ‘Violence Jack.’
Toriyama debuted in 1978 and rose to prominence with ‘Dr. Slump‘ before creating ‘Dragon Ball,’ one of the most influential manga series of all time. He also designed characters for the ‘Dragon Quest‘ series and ‘Chrono Trigger.’ Toriyama passed away in March 2024 at the age of 68.
