GKIDSannounced during its Anime NYC 2026 industry panel that it had acquired the rights to theVampire Hunter D: Bloodlustanime film and the5 Centimeters Per Secondlive-action film.
The Japanese language version ofVampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, which includes English subtitles, will make its North American debut with select screenings this fall, ahead of a theatrical and home entertainment release in 2027.
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlustwas directed byYoshiaki Kawajiri(Ninja Scroll,Wicked City) atMadhouse, who also wrote the screenplay.
The anime film first premiered at Fantasia International Film Festival in 2000. It later premiered in Japan on April 21, 2001 and in the United States on September 3, 2001.
GKIDs describes the anime film’s synopsis as:
After a young woman is seemingly abducted by the vampire Baron Meier Link, her father hires D – a vampire-hunting “Dunpeal” – to rescue her. As D rides across the wastelands, he must compete against a group of tough mercenary hunters, and confront the complex truth about the woman.
Thelive-action film adaptationof5 Centimeters Per Secondwas released in Japan on October 10, 2025. It is based onMakoto Shinkai’s 2007anime film of the same name. Filmmaker and photographerYoshiyuki Okuyama(At the Bench,Kenshi Yonezu’s “Kick Back” music video) directed the live-action film.
The live-action film’s synopsis is described by GKIDS as:
After transferring to the same elementary school, Takaki and Akari became best friends. However, their lives change when both their families are forced to relocate. After a year of separation, Takaki is about to reunite with Akari.
