TL;DR: GeForce RTX 5070 reached 3.62% share in Steam’s July 2026 survey, making it the third most used desktop gaming GPU and closing in on second place; it’s outpacing the RTX 5060, while NVIDIA holds 72.72% overall GPU share versus AMD’s 18.71% and Intel’s 8.16%.

With prices for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs increasing in several markets due to the ongoing memory crisis, the current state of PC gaming hardware is not exactly ideal. Far from it, as we’re seeing the prices for critical components like discrete graphics cards increase to the point where MSRP is starting to feel like a distant memory. Even with the current situation, it’s looking like the GeForce RTX 5070 might go down as one of NVIDIA’s most popular and successful gaming GPUs in a long time.

As seen in the latest data from Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey results for July 2026, the GeForce RTX 5070 is sitting at 3.62% market share, which is pretty much on par with the GeForce RTX 4060’s 3.63% share. It’s not only the most popular card in the current RTX Blackwell and RDNA 4 era of PC gaming, but its rapid adoption has made it one of the most popular PC gaming cards on the market, right behind the GeForce RTX 3060 and RTX 4060.

What makes the RTX 5070’s popularity interesting is that it’s outpacing the more affordable mainstream GeForce RTX 5060, which is normally the model that defines a GeForce RTX generation when it comes to popularity. Part of the RTX 5070’s appeal, or the RTX 5060’s slower growth, probably comes down to the latter’s 8GB of VRAM – which is proving to be a limiting factor when playing modern AAA titles.

That said, it could simply reflect a real need for a powerful mid-range GPU among PC gamers, as the RDNA 4 flagship, the Radeon RX 9070 XT, has almost double the market share of the mainstream Radeon RX 9060 XT – with both cards shipping with 16GB of VRAM.

How did the GeForce RTX 5070’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey share change from June to July 2026?

Why might the RTX 5070 be outperforming the RTX 5060 in adoption according to the article?

Which GPUs occupy the top three positions in the July 2026 Steam discrete GPU rankings?

The top three GPUs in the July 2026 Steam discrete GPU rankings are the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060, per the Steam Hardware & Software Survey shown in the article.

    Question #4

What role does VRAM capacity play in the relative popularity of mid-range GPUs in the article’s analysis?

When it comes to overall market share, NVIDIA continues to dominate with 72.72%, followed by AMD with 18.71%, and then Intel with 8.16%. When you take out integrated graphics and SoCs, NVIDIA’s discrete GPU market share across GeForce RTX PC and laptops sits closer to 90%. Here’s the breakdown.
