Game Night combines robot boxing and sumo into new mixed reality minigame

Game Night’s new mini-game combines Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots boxing and sumo wrestling, and is currently available as a co-located mixed reality party title.

Released in early access last year by New Zealand studio Fantail Games, Game Night is a family-friendly roomscale title that can be played locally solo or with up to four players. Join this collection of minigames as a free update Final Throwdown uses hand tracking exclusively as you directly control your robot avatar’s fists to punch enemies through a shared arena.

Designed around “short, high-intensity rounds,” Final Throwdown sees you score points by knocking other players out of the ring. Throwing into the hoop will earn you bonus points, but the boss will force you to decide whether to cooperate with your opponent or use the chaos to your advantage. The height of the arena adjusts to accommodate shorter players, so you can play seated. Fantail also says that the arm reach has been normalized to give adults and children equal benefits.

Final Throwdown is Game Night’s seventh minigame to date, and the fourth since it entered Early Access last year. Other featured games include Fishing Frenzy, where you scoop and deliver fish, a match-3 spatial puzzle where you connect matching stuffed animals with a conga line, Penguin Ice Hockey, and a game of whack-a-mole that tests your reactions.

Game Night is currently in early access on the Meta Quest platform.
