Fractal Summit PC Case Review

Fractal Design has made some of my favourite PC cases of the past few years. Combining Scandinaer thought I needed in my desktop, but after building rigs in the company’s cases and using them extensively, I have to say I am a convert. With its latest case, the Fractal Summit, the company may have delivered its best-looking model yet

With ample cooling, smart design choices and a striking look, this is a case I love to show off, and I enjoyed building in it even more. Fractal Design has delivered a fantastic offering here. It is also the case I currently use for my main work PC, and I cannot get enough of how it looks.

The white-and-oak Summit model I received is immediately striking out of the box. The matte white finish delivers the right level of elegance, while the wood accents on the front and feet of the case help it stand out in a sea of black-and-white designs that can start to look very similar after a while. The model I received also features a single tempered-glass side panel, letting you show off all the components inside your rig. Easy-access panels make it simple to open the case, make adjustments or swap out parts. With options ranging from black and walnut to blackout designs for a stealthier look, the Summit is an eye-catching case no matter which colourway you choose.

Out of the box, the Fractal Summit features three preinstalled LCP-blade Momentum 14 fans, providing solid airflow through the front of the case. There is plenty of additional space for an AIO or more system fans, and you could even swap everything out if you wanted to push for a more RGB-heavy look. Personally, though, I like the subtle aesthetic the case brings to the PC space while still offering plenty of room for a wide range of systems. At 515 mm tall, or 495 mm without the feet, and 492 mm wide, the case is built to accommodate a range of configurations while maintaining a look all its own.

For my build, I decided to put a fairly specced-out system into the Fractal Summit. I wanted to see how it handled a full-size NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, a full-size ATX GIGABYTE X870E AERO X3D DARK WOODmotherboard, an AVerMedia capture card, a 1,200 W Corsair power supply and a Corsair 360 mm AIO. Altogether, it gave me plenty of hardware to test how well the Summit could handle cooling and whether everything would fit as I hoped.

First and foremost, I love how easy it was to install everything. Even with the wide range of cables and connections I needed to hook up, Fractal Design has made the Summit easy and intuitive to build in. I was able to get most of the PC assembled in under an hour, including cable management. The case also includes an adjustable support bracket, so even the large and heavy RTX 4090 felt secure once installed. That gave me some extra peace of mind that the card would remain properly supported over time.

The Summit also supports reverse-connector motherboards, but for this build, the X870E AERO X3D DARK WOOD dropped in easily and looked striking against the white case. I could also see the motherboard looking outstanding in one of the darker Summit designs, especially with its dark wood accents, but that is something to try another day. I was very happy with how everything came together as I installed the final components.

The Corsair AIO fit easily, while the included fans complemented the case’s minimalist design and sounded great once I got everything up and running. I have been known to swap out system fans for brands I trust, such as Noctua, when setting up a personal PC, but I did not feel the need here.

The LCP-blade Momentum 14 fans included with the case are quiet, powerful and do a great job of keeping the system cool, even without lighting out of the box. There is also an ARGB Gen II ambient-lit version available if you want a slightly more colourful case design. I am very happy with the Summit Chalk White TG Clear Tint model I was sent, and the push-to-release front panel makes it easy to access the fans and cables should you ever need to.

Cable management was straightforward, with useful routing channels and smart quick-fit cable aligners that make it easy to secure cables and keep them out of the way once the build is complete. The case also supports 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives with dedicated brackets, all without taking away from the overall look of the system. It also includes the I/O you would expect from a modern case, including USB Type-C, two USB Type-A ports, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an easy-to-access power button for turning the system on or off.

At $169.99 US, the Fractal Summit is by no means the cheapest case on the market, but it has impressed me with its design, features and overall presentation. I love how easy it is to build in, and the finished system has a striking look that I cannot stop showing off. If you are looking for a case that performs well and looks good doing it, the Fractal Summit is one worth considering.
