Although the Nintendo Switch 2 is capable of delivering 120 FPS gameplay, only a handful of games do, and interestingly enough, it’s mostly games targeting previous-generation systems like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Devil May Cry 5: Devil Hunter Edition. However, early next year, another game originally released on PlayStation 4 and the original Switch will join this exclusive club: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA.
The new version of one of the best entries in the action role-playing game series by Falcom, which launches on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25, 2027 (making the month even more packed with RPG releases), will support up to 120 FPS gameplay, as well as GameShare to allow multiple players to cooperate, according to the official announcement press release. A trailer was also released to showcase the upcoming new version of the game, and you can find it below.
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA supporting 120 FPS gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2 further highlights the versatility of the system. On one hand, the console is more than capable of running current-generation games, although with some expected concessions, allowing owners to enjoy most of the games available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. On the other hand, the system is quickly becoming the best way to enjoy some previous generation games with enhanced framerates and new features: while resolutions may stay low, supporting high framerates can make many of these games way more enjoyable.
This is definitely the case for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA. While the game is not as fast-paced as the classic entries in the series, the strong action gameplay elements can only shine at the higher framerates impossible on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, making one of the best action role-playing games of the past generation an even better game.
