Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A local teenager clicked a link on Discord that appeared to be a Roblox add-on
Instead, a hacker remotely took over his computer and accounts — and the family’s address ended up in the hands of someone who called a SWAT team to their door
Nyssa Schonaur said she heard the May 25 call that brought deputies from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office to her home over a shooting that never happened. She said she looked out the window to find guns drawn and pointed at the house
Records raise questions about Georgia’s largest data center and its water use
Complaints about low water pressure near Georgia’s largest data center − owned by the same company that’s building one in Augusta − led a Georgia county to discover two unauthorized water lines leading into the facility and a bill to the company for $147,000

Schonaur said after her son clicked the link, he was locked out of his accounts and watched the cursor move on its own as the hacker remotely controlled his computer. Once inside his accounts, the hacker found his home address and used it
Thirteen days later, on June 7, a second spoofed 911 call sent deputies back to the same home
Investigators said the calls came from third-party spoofing apps, meaning the number that appeared on dispatch screens was not the real caller’s number
“It’s kids on these online platforms, Roblox and using Discord to communicate and the other party gets mad,” an investigator said
Investigators said that depending on the third-party app used, obtaining the caller’s information can be difficult — and that was the case here. The hacker covered their tracks
Schonaur said she is now working to place a credit freeze on her son’s accounts
Schonaur said she met with the FBI regarding this case. She believes the hacking and swatting could be connected to the online gang known as 764, a group known for targeting and exploiting minors online. The FBI has not confirmed that connection
Parents are advised to monitor what their children are doing online and who they are communicating with. The general rule: if a child does not know someone personally, they should not communicate with that person online
