    More 2000AD and “Trigan Empire” original art offered in latest Book Palace auction

    Book Palace are running anotherComic Artworks Auction featuring a range of art from its vaults over on Catawiki, that includes 2000AD originals by Carlos Ezquerra and Ron Smith, Modesty Blaise, “Trigan Empire” and other strip pages – including a future war page by John Cooper for Battle Picture Weekly.

    Curated by Filippo Piras, artists whose work features also include Jesus Blasco, Simon Coleby, Philip Corke and Gerry Wood.

    Here’s a selection of what’s on offer.     2000AD and Judge Dredd Megazine Art

    Modesty Blaise

    Original Modesty Blaise 5671 by Peter O’Donnell, art by Neville Colvin published in 1983, an episode from Pictures of Us Dying!”, measuring 50cm by 18cm and in excellent condition, signed
    An original Modesty Blaise strip drawn and Signed by Neville Colvin in 1983 for an instalment of 'Death in Slow Motion', first published in the Evening Standard newspaper. Modesty Blaise has been a fan favourite action Newspaper Strip since Jim Holdaway drew the first strips for Peter O'Donnell's stories back in 1963! This is strip number 5672 of the classic series

    Trigan Empire

    Two original colour art pages by Philip Corke titled The Zith Assassin – Title Page from the Trigan Empire, published by IPC in Look and Learn issue 653 (1974), each measuring 33 cm by 45 cm and in good condition

    Other Comic Strip Art and Illustration

    Original page by Eustaquio Segrelles for the origin story of “The Phantom”, originally published in the 1971 Pow! Annual. Pen and ink wash on Bristol board, 29 cm by 41 cm, dating from 1970 and in good condition
    Original pen and ink page by John Cooper for the “Plague of Spiders” for IPC’s Battle Weekly, titled “Bombs Away!”, 1987, sized 40.8 × 51.5 cm and in excellent condition
    This is the unique original Watercolour painting by Nadir Quinto. One of a series of beautiful illustrations painted by Quinto for the British comic Playhour (1958-59) and later used in a children's book version of J. M. Barrie's famous story of Peter Pan published 1982. Playhour featured artwork from many international artists and was published in other countries under other names too.

    John  is the founder of downthetubes, launched in 1998. He is a comics and magazine editor, writer, and Press Officer for the Lakes International Comic Art Festival. He also runs Crucible Comic Press.

    Working in British comics publishing since the 1980s, his credits include editor of titles such as Doctor Who MagazineandOverkill for Marvel UK, Babylon 5 Magazine, Star Trek Magazine, and its successor, Star Trek Explorer, and more. He also edited the comics anthology STRIP Magazine and edited several audio comics for ROK Comics; and has edited several comic collections and graphic novels, including volumes of “Charley’s War” and “Dan Dare”, and Hancock: The Lad Himself, by Stephen Walsh and Keith Page.

    He’s the writer of  comics such as Pilgrim: Secrets and Lies for B7 Comics; “Crucible”, a creator-owned project with 2000AD artist Smuzz; and “Death Duty” and “Skow Dogs”, with Dave Hailwood.
