Singer and model Aroob Khan’s hit song Gucci has found a fresh lease of life on social media, five years after its release. The track recently caught the attention of actor and politician Ravi Kishan, whose dance video on the song went viral and soon sparked a trend across Instagram.

Following Ravi’s video, several celebrities, influencers and social media users joined the trend, creating their own reels and dance videos on Gucci. The renewed popularity of the song has also brought Aroob back into the spotlight, with the singer expressing her happiness at seeing a track released years ago connect with a new audience.

Known for songs such as Gucci, Ringtone and Cute Song, Aroob, 27, continues to explore different sounds and genres. In an exclusive conversation with Moneycontrol, the singer opened up about Gucci going viral again, the reaction to Ravi’s video, her upcoming music, her views on remakes and recreations, and how she deals with online criticism.

For Aroob, the renewed popularity of Gucci came as a pleasant surprise. The singer recalled how the song had already performed well when it was released five years ago, making its resurgence all the more special.

“First of all, it was really unexpected for me to see it boom like that again. Anyhow, it was doing very good when it was released at that time, like, five years ago. But, right now, when I saw those and me popping up on my page, he once started sending me everything. I was very happy because, obviously, when you see a song that was made five, six years ago, and which is I like that, it is a very big thing for an artist.”

She also spoke about her reaction to Ravi’s viral videos and memes surrounding the trend.

“And that too, when I saw the Ravi Kishan memes, they were very funny. I used to keep on searching for the hashtag, the Ravi Kishan meme, and I used to see this to everyone. So it was really overwhelming even I I can say that I have a lot of things at the same time.”

The sudden attention has also made Gucci reach audiences who may not have discovered the song when it originally came out.

With the song once again becoming a social media sensation, Aroob acknowledged that the response also brings a certain amount of pressure. As an artist, she feels the need to continue delivering music that resonates with listeners while living up to the love and expectations coming her way.

At the same time, she is keen to show audiences a different side of herself through her upcoming work.

Aroob revealed that she has several projects in the pipeline and hinted that her upcoming music will allow listeners to see a more emotional side of her personality and artistry.

“I also have a lot of a lot more songs that I have been working on, and I feel like I will be coming up with the best one in the future. I hope that I also get to show my emotional side genre to the people. I’m excited for them to see that side,” the singer added.

While Gucci has become synonymous with its energetic and catchy appeal, Aroob appears ready to experiment with a different emotional space with her upcoming release.

The singer also shared her thoughts on the growing trend of remixes, recreations and the use of popular songs in films. While she is open to seeing her music feature in movies, she would prefer the original versions to be retained rather than altered.

The 27-year-old singer added, “I feel like that is a good thing, but when you remake it, you try to do things with it also and then you play around. I like Authenticity but at the same time, I love, a good music experience experiment. But, recreation I don’t like that a bit. I would love if my songs are used in, movies or anywhere else, but as they are. I mean, I won’t like the changes in them.”

For Aroob, experimentation and authenticity can coexist, but she believes there is a difference between creating a fresh musical experience and changing an existing song through recreation.

According to Aroob, authenticity remains one of the most important qualities that helps an artist build a genuine connection with audiences. She pointed to artists such as Diljit Dosanjh as examples of musicians who have remained connected to their roots while taking their music to a wider audience.

“I feel like it all it all goes back to authenticity. Singers like Diljit Dosanjh stick to their roots. They are not ashamed to, show their, talent to the world, and they express it. It it all it all goes back to the authentic authenticity of India. So speaking to your roots is very important, and I feel like if there is authenticity, people will like it,” she said.

With songs increasingly becoming viral through social media, artists are also exposed to both praise and criticism. Aroob believes the best way to deal with negativity is to understand that music is subjective and everyone has different preferences.

“I feel like there are different kinds of people who might be having different preference preferences and different, I don’t know. They might be liking different genres. They would prefer emotional songs. They would prefer happy songs. So it all depends on people.”

Rather than allowing negative comments to affect her, Aroob chooses to focus on the positive response and continue working on her music. “I feel like if somebody is not liking your music, it’s just not their type. And how I deal with it is that I just ignore if somebody is commenting hate or anything like that because I feel like I cannot control anyone, but all I can do is that I can just stay away from negativity and just focus on the positive aspect of everything.”

As Gucci enjoys a second wave of popularity, Aroob is looking ahead to her upcoming releases while embracing the unpredictable journey of music and the ever-changing nature of social media trends.
