Ektaa Kapoor is going to soon work on The Dirty Picture 2
Noted producer Ektaa Kapoor has confirmed that the second part of her superhit movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ is in the works, 15 years after the release of the Vidya Balan-starrer.
Ektaa was speaking on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast and confirmed that she has finally found a story she wants to tell through the sequel.
Ektaa further said she had been considering The Dirty Picture 2 for some time but is now ready to move ahead because she has found a story that resonates with her.
“One very big film I’m making is The Dirty Picture 2. I’m planning it after 15 years. This time, I believe there is a story I want to tell,” Ektaa said.
The ace producer, who latest release Vvaan has done good business at the box office, also indicated that the sequel will also revolve around an individual’s life.
However, she did not confirm whether the new film would revisit the story of Silk Smitha or introduce a different character.
What was The Dirty Picture about?
The Dirty Picture featured Vidya Balan in the role of a character inspired by the life of noted south Indian actress Silk Smitha. The film was released in December 2011. Silk Smitha was known for her bold screen presence and sensual roles.
The film also featured Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor.
The film explored the entertainment industry’s treatment of women, the price of fame and the way female sexuality was viewed by society. Vidya’s performance received widespread acclaim and earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress.
Talking about her perspective on The Dirty Picture, Ektaa Kapoor said she never viewed its central character simply as a victim. Instead, she saw her as a woman who embraced her sexuality despite the judgement she faced.
“The Dirty Picture was about Silk Smitha. It was about a woman who was condemned for standing up against her sexuality. Now, sexuality is about your choice,” Ektaa said.
Over the years, The Dirty Picture has remained a reference point in conversations about female sexuality, representation and the portrayal of women in Indian cinema. The film challenged conventional ideas about how women on screen should look and behave.
