The Dragon Ball franchise has released four movies that belong to the modern continuity of Dragon Ball Super. Interestingly, the first two, Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’, arrived before the television anime premiered in 2015. Both movies were subsequently adapted into the series, although their anime versions feature several differences.
Meanwhile, Dragon Ball Super: Broly and Super Hero expanded the story with new characters, transformations, and long-awaited character developments. While all four movies have something worthwhile to offer, their storytelling, animation, memorable fights, and contributions to the franchise make some considerably better than others.
4Resurrection ‘F’: Frieza Returns With a Terrifying New Form

Frieza’s return was always going to be a big deal, especially considering how important the character was to Goku’s journey. In Resurrection ‘F’, Sorbet and his men use Earth’s Dragon Balls to bring the tyrant back to life. After recovering, Frieza decides to train for the first time in his life and eventually unlocks his Golden Frieza transformation.
He then launches an invasion of Earth, forcing Goku and Vegeta to confront their old enemy once again. The movie delivers several entertaining moments, particularly Frieza’s confrontation with Vegeta. However, its conclusion prevents it from reaching the heights of the other entries. It takes fourth place because its exciting premise doesn’t quite deliver the satisfying payoff fans expected.
3Battle of Gods: Beerus Gives Dragon Ball a Fresh New Direction

Battle of Gods completely changed the direction of the Dragon Ball franchise by introducing Beerus, the God of Destruction, and his attendant Whis. After awakening from a long slumber, Beerus begins searching for the Super Saiyan God from his prophetic dream. His search eventually brings him to Earth, where Goku and his friends discover just how powerless they are against a divine opponent.
The movie also introduces Super Saiyan God, giving Goku a transformation that would become incredibly important throughout Super. Beyond the action, Beerus and Whis bring some much-needed personality and humour to the franchise. It earns third place for introducing an exciting new era, even if its successors deliver more impressive overall experiences.
2Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Finally Puts Gohan in the Spotlight

After years of watching Gohan take a backseat to Goku and Vegeta, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero finally gives him the attention he deserves. The movie brings back the Red Ribbon Army, which secretly rebuilds its forces and recruits Dr. Hedo to develop powerful new androids.
Piccolo takes centre stage initially, eventually unlocking his Orange Piccolo transformation after Shenron grants him an additional power-up. However, things become considerably more exciting when Gohan awakens his Beast transformation to confront Cell Max. The movie also gives Goten, Trunks, Gamma 1, and Gamma 2 meaningful moments. It takes second place because of its fantastic character development and long-awaited Gohan comeback.
1Dragon Ball Super: Broly Turns a Lost Saiyan Into a Legend

There was considerable excitement surrounding Broly‘s introduction into the main Dragon Ball continuity, and the 2018 movie exceeded expectations. Rather than simply bringing back the original Legendary Super Saiyan, Akira Toriyama completely reimagines his background, personality, and relationship with his father, Paragus. The movie also explores the Saiyan homeworld’s destruction, giving viewers a closer look at Goku, Vegeta, and Broly’s childhoods.
However, its biggest attraction is undoubtedly the spectacular battle between Broly and the two Saiyan warriors. The animation, choreography, and sheer intensity of the final confrontation make it one of the franchise’s finest cinematic experiences. It comfortably takes first place because it combines an excellent story with some of the best action Dragon Ball has ever produced.
