An agreement between all parties involved was formalized this Tuesday, August 11, as the end of the current season approaches.
With just days to go before the end of Formula E Season 12, which concludes next weekend with its final race in London, the outlines of the championship’s next era, notably featuring the introduction of its new GEN4 cars, are taking shape. On Tuesday, August 11, Formula E, Disney+, and ESPN announced the signing of a historic multi-year agreement that will make Disney+ the global streaming platform for the Formula E World Championship in 144 countries, including the United States where it will be broadcast concurrently on ESPN+, starting with the 2026/2027 season. According to the official statement released by all parties involved, “this collaboration, launched alongside the introduction of GEN4, will allow Formula E to reach millions of new fans via Disney+ while maintaining the high accessibility that has made the series so successful to date .” Currently, Formula E is broadcast in France by channels such as L’Équipe and Eurosport. It remains to be seen whether it will now be necessary to subscribe to the Disney+ service in France to see the most efficient electric single-seaters ever designed, at the wheel of which will be Théo Pourchaire , recently hired by Opel for this next season.
A historic agreement for Formula E and Disney+
According to the official press release, “Disney+ subscribers will enjoy complete live coverage of every Formula E race weekend, including all free practice sessions, qualifying, and races. Beyond the live broadcast, fans will have access to dedicated preview and recap shows, race highlights, in-depth analysis, exclusive behind-the-scenes programming, and full race replays on demand, immediately following each event .” Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds commented, “As we enter the GEN4 era, this provides us with an exceptional platform to accelerate our global growth and continue to develop one of the most exciting sports franchises in the world .” Disney+ also expressed its delight at the agreement. “We are delighted to help write the next chapter of this championship on Disney+ and to offer fans around the world privileged access to every live race ,” said Joe Earley, a representative of the entity.
