Disney+ has ordered a pilot for a reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club. Production will start this month in Los Angeles. The variety program launched the careers of Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Keri Russell during its 1989 to 1996 run on The Disney Channel.
The pilot will feature 11 young performers as the new Mouseketeers. Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter, and Brooklynn Pitts from the upcoming Camp Rock 3 will join the cast. They’ll work alongside Erianthe Akaata, Scarlett London Diviney, Michael Cash, Yonas Kibreab, Varonica Mitchell, Kauani, Scarlett Grace Petty, and Carter Barnes.
Fulwell <a href="https://comicvibe.com/amc-entertainment-amc-q2-earnings-taking-a-look-at-key-metrics-versus-estimates/” title=”AMC Entertainment (AMC) Q2 Earnings: Taking a Look at Key Metrics Versus Estimates”>Entertainment will produce the pilot, and Ben Winston, Ashley Edens, Emma Conway, and Dave Piendak serve as executive producers. Winston worked on The Late Late Show with James Corden before this project, and he’ll be the creative director of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
The show will be a “showcase for today’s most talented young performers, where music, innovation, and self-expression take center stage,” Disney stated
Walt Disney created the original program, which started as a stage show in the 1920s before premiering on ABC in 1955. The series ran until 1959, and it came back in syndication from 1977 to 1979.
The Disney Channel revival from 1989 to 1996 produced the most famous alumni. That version also featured NSYNC member JC Chasez, En Vogue singer Rhona Bennett, actress Nikki DeLoach, pop artist Chase Hampton, and voice actress Deedee Magno.
Gosling told Interview Magazine that his time on the show was difficult. “It was kind of depressing because when I got there, they realized that I wasn’t really up to snuff in comparison with what some of the other kids were able to do,” he said.
A version called Club Mickey Mouse played from 2017 to 2018 on Facebook and Instagram. Disney+ has only ordered a pilot at this point, and there’s no confirmation for a full series order or the identities of adult cast members and guests.
