Roger Langridge unleashes “The Fez Papers”
Cartoonist and comics writer Roger Langridge has published The Fez Papers, a 64-page collection of strips featuring his mystical, vaguely amoral sort-of-superhero character, The Fez.
Available to order online direct from Roger, the comics featured in The Fez Paperswere originally drawn between 2012 and 2025 and have previously appeared in David Lloyd’s digital anthology, Aces Weekly, a couple of minicomics, Tripwire Magazine, Langridge’s self-published series ZOOT!, and online. Many of the strips originally ran in black and white and have been coloured for this edition.
According to Langridge, the Fez is a character who doesn’t exist – but, because enough people believe in him, he sort of does. In practical terms this means he’s an ambulatory empty suit wearing a monocle, gloves and, yes, a fez, “fighting the forces of darkness” (badly). The stories are humorous, sometimes darkly so, and each one stands on its own, so the collection is perfect for dipping in and out of, consisting as it does of a variety of gag strips, single-page stories and longer pieces between three and seven pages in length.
This collection is a great introduction to the character who is currently appearing in Langridge’s self-published comic book series Behold! The Fez, currently serialising to supporters on Patreon and being released as a print comic, which he describes as a “superhero sitcom”.
Both Behold! The Fez and The Fez Papers are available directly from Roger, either from his web store at hotelfred.com or at conventions; both items will be available at Thought Bubble next month in Harrogate.
