One of Bollywood’s most beloved cult classics, Dil Chahta Hai(2001), marked 25 years on Friday. To commemorate the milestone, the film’s cast and crew came together for a special anniversary meet in Mumbai on August 28. While the nostalgic reunion saw Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Farhan Akhtar, and Sonali Kulkarni, fans quickly noticed that Akshaye Khanna, who essayed the beloved Sid in the film, was absent from the event.
His absence at the reunion raised curiosity online, with many wondering why the actor missed the event despite being in the promotional poster for the special gathering. Event host Nikhil Taneja took to his Instagram to share the reason behind Khanna skipping the event.
Why was Akshaye Khanna absent from Dil Chahta Hai reunion?
After host Nikhil Taneja shared a series of Instagram pictures, fans flooded the comment section to ask why Akshaye Khanna was absent from the grand celebration. Taneja responded to one fan who asked, “Why no Akshay Khanna?” He replied, “He fell sick unfortunately.” This resolved the ongoing mystery; after finding that Khanna was unwell, fans began sharing their wishes to the Dhurandhar star.
When asked about Preity Zinta’s absence from the event, Nikhil said, “Unfortunately, she was unavailable after several permutations and combinations.”

Released in 2001, Dil Chahta Hai is a cult Bollywood romantic-comedy written and directed by Farhan Akhtar.
