The love Diane Keaton‘s children have for their mom transcends even death.
It’s been exactly one year since the Oscar winner died at the age of 79 from bacterial pneumonia. Tributes haven’t stopped pouring in from Keaton’s famous friends from across her six decades in Hollywood. But it’s theAnnie Hallstar’s two children who are keeping her memory alive.
Keaton’s daughter Dexter and son Duke testified to Keaton’s loving legacy as a mom on Sunday, with a pair of heartfelt social media posts commemorating the first anniversary of her death.
“It somehow feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once. I’m still trying to get used to a world where I can’t call you, have you there for a hug, or go on adventures with you,” Dexter wrote on Instagram.
The post contained a single black-and-white photo of mother and daughter gazing at one another with admiration in their eyes. The photo was taken on the day of Dexter’s wedding to racer Jordan White in 2021. “It’s the everyday moments that remind me just how much I wish you were still here,” she continued. “I love you and I miss you. Always.”
Duke kept it simple, writing “I love you Mom ❤️ Thinking of you every day ♾️” over a set of three photos of mother and son. The first showed Keaton embracing Duke as a boy dressed in a jack-o-lantern costume. The second showed Keaton and her children huddled close at an industry event, and the third depicted them again beaming while aboard a gondola in the Venice canals.

“I didn’t think that I was ever going to be prepared to be a mother,” she later told Ladies’ Home Journal (per PEOPLE). “Motherhood was not an urge I couldn’t resist. It was more like a thought I’d been thinking for a very long time. So I plunged in.”
