Dhanush bagged his latest National Award, but the actor-filmmaker chose to wear the medal around the neck of his mother Vijayalakshmi first.
The 72nd National Film Awards was another milestone in Dhanush’s career. The actor-filmmaker, who was recognized for Raayan, returned to Chennai from Gujarat with his latest honor — his first National Award for direction —

Dhanush posted a picture of his mother with the National Award medal around her neck. Vijayalakshmi smiles proudly showing the honor her son got. Along with the picture, Dhanush posted a small but emotional message, “All for that smile” with heart emojis.
The gesture instantly grabbed the attention of fans and several celebrities who flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages and love for the mother-son duo.
Dhanush gets Special National Award
Dhanush is especially happy about the honor as Raayan won the National Film Award for Best Tamil Film. The film was Dhanush’s second film as a director and his first National Award nomination as a director. Dhanush was also acknowledged for his role in Captain Miller, with a Special Mention at the same ceremony.

Dhanush’s expanding National Award legacy
The latest honor adds to the impressive National Award journey of Dhanush.
He had previously won the Best Actor award for Aadukalam and Asuran. He has also been the producer of National Award-winning films such as Kaaka Muttai and Visaaranai. Dhanush has now added another feather in his cap with Raayan – this time as a filmmaker.
His mother gets the most valuable moment
Dhanush’s post made it clear that while the award is another professional achievement, the moment was deeply personal for him. The actor-filmmaker decided to celebrate his mother’s joy instead of the medal.
