Halloween celebrations are taking place at several venues across Dhaka, with costume parties, spooky attractions, live music and art exhibitions marking the occasion.
Celebrated every year on October 31, Halloween originated in Western countries but has gradually gained popularity around the world. In Bangladesh, the festival is becoming increasingly visible, particularly among young people, influenced by social media, globalisation and international entertainment culture.
Although Halloween is not part of Bengali tradition, various events in the capital reflect a growing interest in the celebration. This year, the line-up includes everything from ghost-themed activities and horror film screenings to music performances and art exhibitions.

One of the events, “Bhoot Choturdoshi”, will take place at Jatra Biroti in Banani today, from 9 am to 2 pm. Drawing on the spooky elements of Bengali culture, the event will feature a ghost-hunting game, storytelling sessions inspired by Bhoot FM, tarot card readings, face painting, children’s books and live music.

Meanwhile, the “Halloween Night Party” is being held at Grill on the Skyline in Tongi today. Running from 6 pm to 10 pm, the event features a Monster BBQ buffet, a haunted cave, live music, a horror film marathon, a costume competition and gothic dance performances.

“Bhoot Utshob” is another attraction, taking place at Mana Bay. The day-long event includes spooky cosplay, horror dance performances, EDM music and a special display recreating a volcanic eruption.
Beyond the Halloween-themed celebrations, the capital is also hosting several art exhibitions.

Artist Moni Majhi’s solo exhibition, “Non-Duality”, opened at Alliance Française de Dhaka in Dhanmondi on October 30. Running until November 10, the exhibition is open to visitors from 3 pm to 9 pm every day. Through wood and different forms, the artist explores her creative ideas and artistic expression.

Another ongoing exhibition is “The Fold Fest”, which celebrates the art of origami. The exhibition began on October 24 and will continue until November 11 at Kun Creative Studio on Sonatongor Road. Visitors can explore it from 5 pm to 9 pm. The event highlights the artistic and creative possibilities of paper folding.

Music will also be part of the Halloween celebrations. “Strange Hours” will be held at Jatra Biroti in Banani today, starting at 6 pm. The event will feature live music, creative costumes and entertainment in a spooky setting. Level Five, Vintage Theory and several other bands are scheduled to perform.
With a mix of themed parties, music and creative activities, Halloween is gradually becoming part of Dhaka’s urban entertainment scene.
