All signs pointed to Ryan Reynolds being ready to hang up his spandex. The actor himself had said that his time with Deadpool being featured as a main character was over, telling fans in an interview with Today thatDeadpool wouldn’t appear again in a solo movie. But now it seems that he’s changed his tune in a big way—one that’s sure to get fans of the comics excited, considering that he specifically mentioned moments from the comics that he felt deserved to be adapted into film.

It’s official, Deadpool 4isn’t just a rumor, and the star of the franchise has announced that the movie is moving forward today at Fanatics Fest, confirming what fans have long hoped for: that there will indeed be another Deadpool film that’s centered around events from the comics that have yet to be seen on the big screen. And what moments might those be? According to Reynolds, they’re “some really deep cuts.”

Now that the X-Men are officially being brought into the MCU fold, it seems that the sky really is the limit. Which, considering the fact that it took years for Reynolds to convince studios that Deadpool not only deserved his own film, but that he deserved one with an R rating that would truly do the character’s canon personality justice, seems more than fair. And based on previous things that Reynolds has said, it makes more sense now that this would be some sort of ensemble film of some kind. When he was last asked about what plans he had for Deadpool, that actor said, “I have some stuff written, but I don’t think I’m ever going to center [Deadpool] again. He’s a supporting character. He’s a guy that’s great in a group.”

So it only seems right that this news is coming on the heels of all the rumors surrounding the MCU reboot of the X-Men—especially now that casting rumors surrounding not only Charles Xavier, but Storm have been making the rounds. And the last time audiences saw Deadpool on the big screen was in 2024, when Deadpool & Wolverine hit theaters, pairing Reynolds with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The film went on to become one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time. It also makes the news of a new Deadpool movie even more ironic, considering that Jackman had said that the movie Logan, which was released years before, would be his last appearance as Wolverine.

What are your thoughts on a fourth Deadpool movie? Is it something you’re looking forward to, or was Reynolds right about Deadpool being better as a side character? Let us know in the comments. And don’t forget to check out the ComicBook forum to see what other fans are saying about the news.
