DC Studios brings Clayface to Fortnite ahead of film release

DC Studios has taken its upcoming Clayface film into Fortnite, with a two-week takeover of three user-generated maps starting today.

According to a release, the campaign was put together with Chartis, a company that builds games and media inside user-generated content (UGC) platforms. It runs in Fortnite from October 13th until October 27th, landing before the film arrives in North American cinemas on October 23rd. Players can reach it through island codes 3739-0247-7626, 7996-5597-0868 and 3469-7377-0976.

The three maps involved are Havoc Hotel, Havoc Hotel 2 and Bed Wars Klombos, all established community-made modes rather than purpose-built promotional islands. Each has been given Gotham-inspired settings and custom levels tied to the film. The release said the idea was to weave the film’s horror aesthetic into environments players already use, reaching an audience at scale without pulling it somewhere new.

Tom Rhys Harries appears as Matt Hagen

Tying the three maps together is actor Tom Rhys Harries, who plays Matt Hagen in the film and appears in-game as an interactive non-playable character (NPC). Players can encounter him and engage with him directly across each experience. DC Studios said the setup lets audiences experience the character in a way that extends past the screen and puts them inside the story.

Clayface is one of Batman’s longer-standing adversaries, and the release said the activation leans on the themes of identity, loss and transformation that sit behind the villain’s origin. That framing matches the film itself, a horror thriller directed by James Watkins. A trailer for the campaign has also been released alongside the in-game launch.

Films keep turning up in Fortnite

Film marketing inside Fortnite is not new, and the Creative side of the game has become a familiar route for brands trying to reach players before a release date. DC Studios said putting Clayface on one of the world’s biggest gaming platforms gives both existing fans and newcomers a way into the story ahead of its theatrical debut. Chartis is also preparing a similar campaign for a second film, with details expected on October 15th.

Clayface is a DC Studios presentation in association with Domain Entertainment, produced by 6th & Idaho. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing the film, which opens in cinemas in North America on October 23rd and internationally from October 21st. The Fortnite integration will remain live for four days after the North American release.
