Wonder Woman gets a year-long celebration in 2027, and DC Comics has lined up major creative talent to lead the charge!
On the anniversary of Diana’s 1941 debut in All-Star Comics#8, DC has officially declared 2027 the Year of Wonder, a celebration of the Amazon Princess featuring new stories from acclaimed creators.
Writer Louise Simonson will lead the festivities, writing DC’s main Wonder Woman series for the first time, beginning with Wonder Woman #41 on January 20, 2027. Simonson will team with artist Cian Tormey for a four-issue story that promises major changes for Diana and the Amazons.
Following that arc, writer Stephanie Williams and artist Elena Casagrande will take over for six issues, carrying the celebration through October 2027.
DC also promises more Wonder Woman announcements throughout the year.
Louise Simonson takes Wonder Woman into a new era
Simonson’s story picks up as Diana attempts to overturn the Amazon Safety Act, which has prevented her sisters from returning to Man’s World. But after everything the Amazons have endured, convincing them to return may prove more difficult than changing the law itself.
The arc will also bring Lois Lane into the action, along with Granny Goodness and her Female Furies.
“I haven’t written many books with female leads, and they don’t come any more iconic than Diana,” said Simonson. “Teaming her up with Lois Lane, another iconic character, is a dream come true. Throw in Granny Goodness and her Female Furies? It doesn’t get more fun than that.”
Simonson also acknowledged the significance of joining the title between two other notable creative runs.
“Writing Wonder Woman, not just as part of the main series but during DC’s Year of Wonder, is both intimidating and exciting,” she said. “Intimidating because my four-issue arc is sandwiched between the brilliant Tom King run and the work of the immensely talented, smart, and funny Stephanie Williams.”
She’s especially enthusiastic about working with Tormey, whose artwork will help establish the new chapter.
“Exciting because I get to work with artist Cian Tormey, who draws beautiful figures, exhilarating action, and subtle emotions with equal mastery. His pages are gorgeous!”
Stephanie Williams and Elena Casagrande take over next
Once Simonson and Tormey conclude their four-issue story, Stephanie Williams and Elena Casagrande will take the reins for a six-issue arc.
Williams is already familiar with Diana’s world, having contributed four issues to Wonder Woman in 2026 and co-written Wonder Woman 2026 Annual: Wonder War – The Matriarch Special #1. She also writes DC GO!’s Warriors and a Wee Wonder, which will soon become Warriors and a ‘Tween Wonder.
Her upcoming story will give her more room to explore Diana’s character, and it sounds like Nubia fans have something to look forward to.
“Diana has my whole heart,” said Williams, “so getting to come back to her world after Wonder Woman and Matriarch feels like coming home, only this time with a longer runway. Six issues gives me room to really sit with Diana, to let her be fierce and funny and compassionate all at once, and to let the story breathe in a way I’m so excited for readers to experience. Plus, I finally get to work in the Nubia team-up I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time, but this time they won’t be going to Las Vegas.”
Williams also expressed her excitement about sharing the Year of Wonder with Simonson and working alongside Casagrande.
“And I get to be in the main Wonder Woman series alongside Weezie? Louise is an absolute legend, and sharing this Year of Wonder with her is a full-circle, pinch-me moment,” Williams said.
“And then there’s Elena Casagrande, who is ridiculously talented. Few draw women quite like Elena does: gorgeous, powerful, and so full of life and movement. Getting to see her bring Diana and the Amazons to the page is a dream, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what she does.”
