The Lincoln School Project will welcome Stephane Manuel, creator of True Fiktion, to historic Lincoln School, 1400 E. Pony Thomas St. in West Plains, for two special programs on Aug. 20 and 21.

Manuel played a vital role in introducing the school’s history to a new generation by creating “Mary Anne’s First Class: The Lincoln School.” Launched in April, the comic book translates the local landmark’s history into an accessible visual narrative.

An author talk, discussion and signing will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20. Manuel will discuss the comic’s development and the process of translating history into visual storytelling. Copies of the comic will be available for $5. The event is free and includes light refreshments.

From 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 21, Manuel will lead a free educator workshop exploring how comics can engage students and build meaningful curriculum.

“Stephane and True Fiktion helped us take the story of Lincoln School beyond the walls of this historic building and place it into the hands of young people,” said Lincoln School Project Executive Director Crockett Oaks.

To RSVP for Friday’s workshop, email LincolnSchool65775@gmail.com.
