Chris Pratt is ready to fulfill a long-standing promise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Three years after his character left the titular collective at the end of 2023’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — and the film ended with a post-credits sequence promising that “the legendary Star-Lord will return” — the 47-year-old has revealed that the MCU soon intends to fulfill the prophecy.
“I have a great relationship with Kevin [Feige] and Lou [D’Esposito],” Pratt told The Playlist of the Marvel Studios president and executive producer, respectively.

He continued, adding that “there have been both ongoing conversations about how we make good on that promise and also hard action taken to make sure that we make good on that promise.”
Pratt still confirmed that “yeah, you’ll see Star-Lord again, which is very exciting,” though he teased he’s “not at liberty to say when that’s going to be, but he’s not going anywhere.”
The superstar actor first portrayed Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord — the leader of a disparate group of superheroes — in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy film, which went on to gross nearly $800 million worldwide.
He returned for its sequels in 2017 and 2023, which nearly added an additional $2 billion to the series’ global box office haul, and starred in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.
Director James Gunn revealed last year on the Armchair Expert podcast that he initially didn’t think to cast Pratt in the film, after the actor became a star on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.
“This joker? No way,” he said of his initial thoughts about casting Pratt in the lead role, later recalling: “It was not 12 seconds into the audition and I turned around to [casting director Sarah Halley Finn] and I said, ‘He’s the one.'”

While Pratt’s official return project hasn’t been revealed, other Marvel stars will unite once again later this year in the blockbuster sequel Avengers: Doomsday.
Perhaps the most significant of the returning stars is Robert Downey Jr., whose Iron Man character died in Endgame. Downey won’t play Iron Man in Doomsday, however; he’ll instead take on the villainous role of Doctor Doom.

At Disney’s D23 convention in August, it was announced that Downey would resurrect Iron Man to film scenes for the Disneyland Resort’s upcoming Avengers Infinity Defense ride set to open at the California Adventure park.
