Charlie Brooker is expanding his Netflix slate. Having first caught wind of a mysterious new detective project from the Black Mirror creator earlier this year under the working title Codename, the veil has finally been lifted. Officially titled Blackmere (previously Project Codename), here is everything we know about the upcoming absurd comedy disguised as a serious crime thriller, slated for release in early 2027.
As we previously reported, Brooker is teaming up with his long-time Black Mirror collaborator Annabel Jones, as well as Jessica Rhoades (Station Eleven, Sharp Objects) to executive produce. Produced under Broke and Bones (the production company Brooker and Jones established), the new series promises to be a hilarious, blood-soaked spoof of the gritty British crime thriller genre.

Here’s what you can expect from Blackmere:
An absurd comedy disguised as an incredibly serious crime thriller. Tormented Detective John Blackmere leaves the rain-soaked Northern city of Bleakford for London to avenge his partner’s death and catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of victims. Contains blood and frowning.
New first looks dropped on September 24th as part of Netflix’s first-ever UK Upfront.
Who is in the cast of Blackmere?
We previously broke the news that a trio of incredible talent would be leading the series, and they remain the stars of the show:
- Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon, MobLand) will star as the titular, frowning, tormented Detective John Blackmere.
- Georgina Campbell (Barbarian, Watchers)
- Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, The Abandons)
Today, Netflix confirmed something we were previously tracking: The Diplomat and Black Mirror star (appearing in the very first episode) Rory Kinnear will be appearing.
Now, What’s on Netflix has uncovered a slew of new cast members who will be joining the ensemble:
- Abbie Murphy (Cheaters, David Brent: Life on the Road) as Kate
- Maximilian Osinski (Ted Lasso, The Walking Dead: World Beyond) will play Nikolai.
- Nadia Albina (Doctor Who, The Witcher: Blood Origin) will play Mauser.
- Endy McKay (The A List) as Felicity Creen.
- Suzie Chard as Whitechapel Li.
- Charles Armstrong (The Crown) as Hans.
- Paul Ginns as Yuri.
- Brad Alexander (The Play That Goes Wrong)
- Brendan Patricks (Downton Abbey)
Additionally, Henry Bell has been cast to play a younger version of Paddy Considine’s character, John Blackmere.
Who is behind the series?
Charlie Brooker is the creator and lead writer for the series, but he’s assembled an excellent writers’ room to bring Blackmere to life.
Writing alongside Brooker are Ben Caudell (Cunk on Earth), Jason Hazeley (Death to 2020), Emer Kenny (Karen Pirie), Daniel Maier (Touch of Cloth), and Joel Morris (Philomena Cunk). The series will also feature additional material by Victoria Asare-Archer (Stay Close).
In the director’s chair is Al Campbell, who previously collaborated with Brooker on the legendary Screenwipe, Cunk on Britain, and Death to 2020.
Rounding out the team behind the camera, we have Mark Kinsella (Black Mirror) serving as Co-Executive Producer, and Richard Webb (The Crown) attached as Producer.
When is Blackmere coming to Netflix?
