The trailer for Channing Tatum’s critically acclaimed new film Josephine has arrived.

On Tuesday, August 11, Sumerian Pictures released the official first look at its new film, which already received rave views at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

“After 8-year-old Josephine (Mason Reeves) accidentally witnesses a crime in Golden Gate Park, she begins to act out violently to protect herself,” the movie’s logline states. “This emotional trauma leads to conflicts between her parents (Tatum and Gemma Chan) as they search for justice, and a way to feel safe again.”

Josephine debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in February, where the film won both the Grand Jury and Audience Awards. Tatum made headlines at the time for his reaction to the premiere, crying “five, six, seven times” during the screening.

“One of the scenes that got me, and I wasn’t there for the filming it, is when Josephine is looking through the window and drawing things,” Tatum told Variety. “I bawled my eyes out. It was such a beautiful scene. That was unexpected. There are so many moments in this movie where you think about your own child and your own childhood.”

Tatum shares daughter Everly, 13, with ex-wife Jenna Dewan.

“I have a daughter, and it has made me look at myself and the way I parent and what the connection is and how I’m communicating things,” the Roofman actor added. “This movie deals with such hard subjects, but in such a masterfully artful way. I am so proud to be in it.”

Tatum and Dewan met on the set of Step Up in 2006 and tied the knot in July 2009. They welcomed Everly in May 2013, five years before they announced their separation.

Dewan filed for divorce from Tatum in October 2018. The split was finalized in September 2024.

In October 2025, Tatum opened up about parenting a young teen, noting that he and Everly are in a “constant negotiation.”

“I actually just had a conversation with my daughter on the way to school, like two days ago, because I’m trying to make some decisions on a movie to go do next year that’s gonna be in Australia and I won’t get to see her for almost two months,” he said on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “Avengers was going to be in London. Same thing. It wasn’t as long, but I was like, ‘I don’t know if I want to take it, Ev, because I’m going to miss the beginning of your middle school.’ She was like, ‘No, Dad, that’s a really good part. I want you to go do that.’ I was in tears as well.”

He also opened up about navigating an argument with his daughter.

“I got yelled at in an escape room yesterday,” Tatum told Drew Barrymore on her talk show. “Like, she’s never yelled at me before. All I did, I was like, ‘I wonder what …’ She’s like, ‘Dad, don’t touch that!’ And I’m like, ‘Whoa, what was that?’ We’re both trying to solve this problem and now I feel like we have to go to therapy because of that moment.”
