Six months after the Evil Deadstar shared he was diagnosed with cancer, he opened up about his prognosis, revealing his medical team has given him five years to live “give or take”

“I’m in a five-year prognosis,” Campbell said during a recent appearance on The Adam Carolla Show. “With the type of cancer that I have, which I don’t want to get into, the current thing is a five-year deal.”

But that statistic isn’t holding the 68-year-old back from enjoying the time he does have.

“It’s a fascinating thing that takes place because [cancer] messes with your head, too. I’ve decided though, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it,” he explained. “You can go down a massive rabbit hole. The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have exactly what you have. I won’t touch it with a 10-foot pole.”

Instead, he’s throwing himself into his work, which includes promoting his latest film Ernie & Emma.

“When I promote this movie, I have nothing. I’m free and clear when I promote this movie,” Campbell said. “You have to make this decision of, ‘Oh OK, but do I have to stop everything I’m doing because of this?’ Well no. So, it’s a sort of whack-a-mole life, literally.”

“Cancer compromises s–t inside your body,” he added. “You don’t die from cancer, you die from what cancer does to you. It does weird s–t and then you address it and move on.”

Bruce Campbell attends the Hysteria! press room during New York Comic Con 2024 at The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center on October 17, 2024 in New York City.

The Army of Darkness actor shared he was diagnosed with “a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable’ not ‘curable'” in March.

“I apologize if that’s a shock—it was to me too,” he wrote in a statement shared on X March 2. “The good news is, I’m not gonna go into any more detail. I’m posting this, because professionally, a few things will have to change—appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment.”

Explaining that he was not going public with his diagnosis to “enlist sympathy,” but rather to “get ahead of this information in case false information gets out,” Campbell assured fans to “fear not” over his condition.

“I am a tough old son-of-a-b—h and I have great support,” he wrote, “so I expect to be around a while.”
