Blockchain.com already offers prediction markets through a Polymarket partnership and perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid to some international customers. The company has now applied to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for the registrations it would need to offer event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives to U.S. retail and institutional customers
The applications have not been approved, and the company has not disclosed an expected decision timetable. If granted, the registrations would place its proposed U.S. products within the CFTC’s federal <a href="https://comicvibe.com/pm-modi-emphasizes-indias-gaming-framework/” title=”PM Modi Emphasizes India’s Gaming Framework”>framework for futures and derivatives.
Two registrations, two roles
Blockchain.com is seeking designation as a designated contract market (DCM), which would allow it to operate a futures exchange, and registration as a futures commission merchant (FCM), the broker registration for derivatives contracts. The company told CNBC that it wants to offer both event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives to U.S. customers.
The products would bring together two areas increasingly appearing across crypto and prediction-market platforms. Perpetual futures are among the crypto trading products prediction-market operators have begun offering; the overlap is covered in Gaming America’s reporting on prediction markets and perpetual futures.

Peter Smith, Blockchain.com’s CEO and co-founder, described the applications as part of a plan to bring its digital-asset and trading services together in the U.S.
“Users should be able to manage their digital assets, trade derivatives, and take positions on real-world events easily, without jumping between different apps,” said Peter Smith, CEO and co-founder of Blockchain.com. “Our DCM and FCM applications build toward that future in the U.S. through the appropriate regulatory frameworks.”
Competition is crossing product lines
The filing arrives as crypto companies and prediction-market operators move into each other’s territory. Crypto.com and Gemini Space Station run their own event-contract marketplaces, while Coinbase offers event contracts primarily through a partnership with Kalshi. Kalshi and Polymarket have also launched perpetual futures, for U.S. and international customers respectively, CNBC reported.
The CFTC application count underscores the competition for a federal exchange foothold. Blockchain.com joins 11 other companies that filed in 2026 seeking DCM licenses; the agency has approved six new DCMs this year The number of applications and approvals points to a growing pool of prospective venues, but does not establish that any particular pending application will be approved
The regulatory question extends beyond licensing. Federal and state authorities are disputing oversight of prediction markets, particularly where contracts relate to sports. The debate over how event contracts fit within CFTC rules has also drawn attention from sports and gaming stakeholders, as discussion of the CFTC’s prediction-market framework illustrates.
That unresolved jurisdictional backdrop matters for companies seeking to offer event contracts, but the available reporting does not establish that Blockchain.com’s filing is tied to a particular court case or expected ruling. Its stated request is for the two registrations needed to operate a U.S. futures market and broker derivatives contracts.
IPO plans and CFTC review remain ahead
Blockchain.com is also preparing for a possible public listing. The company confidentially filed for an initial public offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission in May, and Bloomberg reported that it was planning to go public in 2026 with a target valuation of $4 billion to $6 billion. CNBC did not report an IPO timetable beyond that account.
The next regulatory step is consideration of the DCM and FCM applications by the CFTC. No approval schedule or launch date for the proposed U.S. services has been reported. For now, Blockchain.com’s prediction markets and perpetual futures remain available to some international customers while its U.S. plans await review.
