Preity Zinta has responded to the backlash over her remarks about women in the pre-Independence era while discussing her experience of working on Batwara 1947. The actor clarified that her comments were taken out of context and urged people to watch the film before forming an opinion.

Responding to an opinion piece published by ThePrint, Preity wrote, “Hi, I have not read your article fully, but after reading the text above, I feel your take on my experience while filming is totally taken out of context. I’m surprised how everyone is so quick to react to any comment without fully understanding the context. This is a film and it deals with a particular family. There are no broad strokes here. Judging the film or director like this without seeing it is both unfair and unjust. Journalism should be responsible and fair. Please see the film on 14th Aug and then form an opinion. Thank you. Much love.”
Her response came after the publication shared an article with the headline, “Dear Rajkumar Santoshi, Indian women before 1947 weren’t just wives, mothers, or rebels.”
In an interview with SCREEN, Preity shared her experience of working with Rajkumar Santoshi and said, “When I used to ask Raj ji what to do in a scene, he’d say, âPreity, aap khana banao.’ Next scene, âPreity, aap safai karo.’ Next scene, âPreity, aap stitching karo.’ I said, âRaj ji, come on!’ He said, âThis is 1947. The only career you can have is of a freedom fighter. There’s no other career. Your career is your husband, your children, and your home.'”
When Preity Zinta slammed paparazzo
Before this, Preity was in the news as she slammed a paparazzo claiming she ignored Aamir Khan during promotions. Calling it clickbait, she clarified that she did not see him as she was rushing to shoot and catch a flight for the film’s promotions. This comes after Preity Zinta called out the intrusive nature of paparazzi a few months back.
After Batwara 1947, Preity will be seen in Vibe. Written and directed by Kunal Kemmu, Vibe also stars Laapataa Ladies fame Sparsh Shrivastava in a crucial role, along with debutant Vanshika Dhir.
