The Penguin showrunner, Lauren LeFranc, could join another DC television series. The writer and producer could reportedly join a new television show based on a prominent comic book character. Warner Bros. and DC Comics are developing the project, but the creative team and story details remain unconfirmed.
According to Deadline, LeFranc is in talks to produce a new HBO series based on Poison Ivy. LeFranc would reportedly serve as a producer, with no writers attached yet. The series will also remain separate from Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe.
Poison Ivy, also known as Dr. Pamela Isley, uses her botanical expertise and plant-controlling abilities to challenge Batman. Her environmental activism often puts her at odds with Gotham’s powerful figures, while her abilities make her a formidable opponent. Uma Thurman previously portrayed the character in the 1997 film Batman & Robin.
What else has Lauren LeFranc worked on besides The Penguin?
Lauren LeFranc has worked on several television shows across different genres. Her writing credits include Marvel‘s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which follows a team investigating unusual threats, and Impulse, a science-fiction drama based on Steven Gould’s novel. She created Impulse and served as its showrunner, following a teenager who discovers she can teleport. LeFranc also worked on NBC’s action-comedy series Chuck, starring Zachary Levi. The series follows computer expert Chuck Bartowski, who accidentally gains access to secret government information and becomes involved in spy missions while trying to maintain his normal life.
LeFranc’s work on The Penguin brought her further recognition for her approach to comic book adaptations. The HBO series follows Colin Farrell’s Oswald Cobb as he seeks power in Gotham’s criminal underworld after the events of 2022’s The Batman. Cristin Milioti plays his rival, Sofia Falcone. If confirmed, LeFranc’s involvement in the Poison Ivy project would mark another DC collaboration.
The series has yet to announce its cast, additional creative team members, or release date.
