Baldur’s Gate 3, Magic The Gathering, and Dungeons & Dragons comics announced at SDCC 2026
Karlach will return, albeit in comic book form.
San Diego Comic–Con 2026 brought Baldur’s Gate 3 fans a very special announcement: the highly-beloved fantasy RPG is officially getting a comic book adaptation. The comic series will be and is being developed in collaboration with game developer Larian Studios and Dungeons & Dragons publisher Wizards of the Coast
What is the Baldur’s Gate 3 comic book series about?
Baldur’s Gate 3 fans might not have a sequel to look forward to anytime soon, but they might be able to get their fix elsewhere. At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Wizards of the Coast announced that it was teaming up with Baldur’s Gate 3 developer Larian Studios to make a comic series based on the game.
More details for the project are said to be announced at a later date. However, some early artwork for the comic was also released featuring Karlach, an in-game companion, drawn by artist Becky Cloonan. Given Karlach’s infamously open-ended ending in the game (depending on your choices, that is), there’s plenty of potential for a comic series based on the character if Dark Horse chooses to go down that route.
Is there a Dungeons & Dragons comic series?
Dark Horse Comics also announced its first ongoing Dungeons & Dragons comic series, which will begin with Dungeons & Dragons #1 on 4 November, 2026. The series, which is based on the iconic tabletop RPG of the same name, will feature the creative team of writers Collin Kelly & Jackson Lanzing, artist Ibraim Roberson, inker Arabson Oliveira, colorist Dan Brown, and letterer Haley Rose-Lyon.
The wizard Mordenkainen, explorer Volo, and demonologist Tasha will be featured in the comic, which focuses on the trio attempting to stop a dragon-related apocalypse from annihilating Faerun.
Additionally, Dark Horse is also debuting a new Magic: The Gathering comic called The Mage of Zhalfir in November 2026. The comic will follow the time mage Teferi Akosa across the Magic multiverse. However, this book does not have a creative team attached just yet.
